marked best answer How do you handle friends wanting to drop their pets off for a stay "but we are friends" without being charged or going through Rover?

We have encountered friends expecting us to Pet sit without charge (even if offered a substantial discount) even now that we are running a business through Rover. Have you come up against this and how did you handle it? We have stressed the importance of the premium insurance and the fact that we are running a business.

asked a question How do I adjust a clients charges?

How do I adjust a clients charges? They had an emergency and booked to start staying with us last night but, are coming this morning instead. How can I adjust their charges to show the charge for last night is removed?

commented answer Is there a way to lock in a price for a friend or specific client?

Thank you. Yes, exactly what I was thinking.

Is there a way to lock in a price for a friend or specific client without that price being available to everyone? Can I change the pricing for one person only? Do you do this before they book? Or can it be done after a booking?

commented answer Is anyone using the call in leads from Rover? The one where you pay 50% of each clients first visit to Rover and then keep 85% for each following stay? What are your thoughts on this service?

I would be curious to know what percentage of business would come from this call in service.

Is anyone using the call in leads from Rover? The one where you pay 50% of each clients first visit to Rover and then keep 85% for each following stay? What are your thoughts on this service? 50% is a bit steep for me. Wondering if it is worth it to get these leads though. Thoughts? Anyone opt in? Seeing a clear benefit from it?

eBay has a classified section where you are able to post services, like ours. Good luck!

answered a question What is the best durable dog toy?

I have a tough chewer too. Kongs last but, she really isn't very interested in them for long. I put peanut butter inside to tempt her. That only lasts as long as the peanut butter remains. She destroys anything plush or stuffed. She even destroys thin plastic toys, especially with squeakers inside. Nylabones seem to be a huge hit. We also give her hooves and bones. Those are favorites. Good luck!

answered a question Paying in cash?

I always have my clients go through Rover and therefore they must pay by cc. This way they are insured and everyone is happy and healthy. Gently remind your client of all the added benefits to their pup by using Rover and their policies.

asked a question Anyone participate in the Rover Donation program?

Anyone participate in the Rover Donation program? Besides the obvious, do you find an added benefit from participating? Do you feel the badge helps attract future clients? I noticed that it is not a tax write off going through Rover. What group have you selected? I am thinking of going with Angels Among Us.

answered a question does anyone use crates during pet stay?

It depends on the dog and the owners. During the Meet & Greet I ask about their dogs behavior and if they are crate trained. I ask where they sleep, etc. I am home most of the time while I pet sit, but if there is a reason for me to leave, then I know in advance the owner/dogs preference: If they prefer the pup to be in a separate room or in a crate. I have two crates set up in my home and all of the dogs, mine included, go in and out of them. lol It is never used a punishment, only to secure that everyone is safe and happy if I must leave.

answered a question After Stay: Thank you/goodie bags?

I have purchased a treat or toy that the visiting pup seemed to really enjoy while staying with us to take home. I was thinking of making up T-shirts, tote bags, etc with our business name/logo to give to the pup parents as well. I do like the lint roller or poop bags too!

answered a question Will rover ever have a way to price doggie daycare?

This is something sorely lacking with Rover. Hopefully, they will rectify this soon and make it easier for us and our clients to utilize this service. Great question.

Good idea!

answered a question Applying for a business license?

Yes, I recently applied for my EIN and as an LLC on the advice of my Accountant. Want to do everything on the level and have the best experience all around.

answered a question Has anyone set their business up as an LLC after starting with rover?

I just set up an LLC and got an EIN on the advice of my Accountant. Will let you know how it all pans out.

commented answer How do you market yourself for more business?

DOOR HANGERS! great idea!

answered a question How are you sharing your code?

I utilize our Facebook page and profile, Craigslist, eBay. local FB groups, on our business cards, twitter and word of mouth.

asked a question Does anyone use the new app Periscope to live stream to their clients their pup's activities throughout their stay?

Was thinking of setting up cameras for the pet's parents we are hosting for them to log in and view their pet's activity during a stay. Was informed of a new app, Periscope that allows you to live stream video to followers. Anyone use it? Pros? Cons?

answered a question Sitter to sitter. My pricing is per night per dog. So does anyone discount the 2nd or more dogs?

Yes, I discount for additional dogs staying from the same family. It is typically at $5 reduced rated per additional dog. The clients seem to appreciate that and it is nice to have same family members stay with us together too. It does make good business sense to give a small consideration in this way.

answered a question Can I send a video to the dog owner?

I have a Facebook page that I upload videos of the pets I am hosting. I often do not have time to connect to the Rover app to film within their system so wind up recording straight to my phone. This also drives my clients to support my Facebook page and become interactive there as well.

answered a question Do you limit client photos on profile?

I never thought to limit the photos I post of my clients pups. I post periodically throughout the day to let the parents know what a great time their fur babies are having. Interesting thought though.
