commented answer Alerting an owner about a destructive dog?

Thanks for the response. I messaged the owner as a concerned sitter, and he was completely apologetic. There was a miscommunication about if the crate was just a bed vs a containment unit. There were no problems afterwards. He did offer to pay, but I declined as the section she tore up was scheduled for repair anyway.

commented answer Alerting an owner about a destructive dog?

We did discuss it, as nervousness seems to be a trend in Doxys. He stated that his previous sitters have all fallen in love with them (there are two), and that they are used to being apartment dogs. They came with a travel crate that is not large enough to house both of them for more than a car ride, and when I asked about it, he said that they use it as a bed at home, that they CAN be crated but usually aren't. I took this to mean, they use it as a bed, and are ok with being crated not that they HAVE to be. The room(s) they have been staying in with us haven't been an issue thus far, they've been here 3 days so far, with another 4 to go. It was just yesterday that all hell seemed to break loose... answered a question Can I tip my pet sitter?

Tipping always tells me I did a great job! It might just be a CA thing, but so far all my tips have been in alcohol forms which has made for a very happy husband seeing as I dont drink myself. Even if its not for me, I know the owner was thinking of me, and grateful for my service.

asked a question Alerting an owner about a destructive dog?

I have a clients dog sitting here. This is a 10 lb dachshund with a mission. While I was walking my own dogs first, she tipped over the trash and made a huge mess. Knowing that she couldn't be left out in the open, I contained her to one room where she could do the least damage, or so I thought. I was only gone a few hours for dinner. She ripped up a large section of carpet, which we will now need to replace or lose our deposit. I know that Rover does not cover the charges, but should I alert the owner? If so what is the correct way to do so without being offensive.

answered a question When does puppy breath go away?

Puppy breath can be caused by numerous things, but I have found it comes with teething. As the puppys teeth loosen up, there will be some decay until they pop out. After teething, the non offensive odor should return. In the meantime, this is the perfect time to start training your puppy to accept dental cleanings. You can do this by using a dog friendly toothpaste. I recommend Nylabone. Start by doing finger cleanings, since the puppy will be more than happy to nibble on those. Then as they get used to the sensation, you can move on to a smaller toothbrush. Remember to brush gently and not too deep. This should help remedy the problem and prostpone future smells. Hope that helps =)

answered a question Why does my dog have a lump from his rabies shot?

Im surprised that's where the injection site was. There is usually an understanding that all the vaccines go in different muscle areas so that other vets can determine if it was from that vaccine or not. Also while the fluids that get injected are SQ, they aren't usually enough to create a large bubble. 100ccs of fluid will do that. If you are really worried it never hurts to have a second opinion. In human cases, there are some vaccines that will cause a fluid filled sac. personal experience with one They do go away in time.

asked a question What to do when you know a sitter is unfit?

Long story short. I know a Rover sitter that lives near me, and recently her dogs got out and I was able to catch them and bring them back. This happened twice. My problem is that she knows there's a hole in her fence, and has not fixed it, yet is advertising a fenced in yard on her profile.

I feel like this isn't being taken seriously, because I'm not a client and I don't want it to seem like I'm trying to "get rid of the competition." Its genuinely concerning that Rover pets could find themselves on one of the 3 highways here due to her negligence.

answered a question Client Only Photo Album?

I think this question needs a few more words, but I will try and give you a few options.

~When you take photos of a clients pets, you can choose whether they become public (on your Rover site) or not. ~After a certain amount of photos, the clients get a "reel" with all the photos from their pets stays. ~Rover does not yet have an option to separate photos on your page, instead owners and sitters can look them up using the "past stays" tab in your inbox. They should appear at the top. ~If the owner gives you permission, you can always email the photos to them so they are completely private. Just make sure they arent expecting them through Rover or it will impact your % of clients that received photos #.

I hope that helps, and if it didnt I may have misinterpreted your question. Best of luck!

answered a question What is the best dog shampoo?

If you are having trouble finding the perfect shampoo, I would recommend talking to your vet. I like BP0-3 personally. They sell it on amazon, and it works wonders on black dogs, to give them a shiny coat. If you notice your dog is getting flaky you check to make sure its not something else like allergies. There are shampoos for that too!

answered a question A question for Traveling Sitters.

My traveling sit style is not overnight. I will tell owners up front that I can walk their dog multiple times a day if they leave a key, but I generally do not stay overnight. I consider myself an overnight sitter, because if I were to charge per walk, the prices would skyrocket to compensate for gas. This method allows me to charge per night/day and the dog still gets walked fed and cuddled during the day This allows me to travel sit 2 clients at a time which is the number I am comfortable doing, while also tending to my own dogs. If the dog has sever SA, I will recommend the owner to a sitter that can stay with the dog 24/7.

commented answer Do meet and greets sync with your calendar?

Thanks for the response! What should I be looking for, because I currently have 5 meet and greets scheduled through Rover, and none of them show up noticeably.

answered a question FOOD PROVIDED FOR SITTERS STAYING AT OWNERS HOME

As a sitter I never raid the owners home for food. I think of it as having a desk job. You wouldn't expect your boss to bring you lunch every day. I have had owners leave a 20 for pizza, or even bake me cookies or something to munch on. For extended stays I will buy quick meals such as ramen, or soup and if I want to use any utensils from the kitchen I always wash them before the owner comes home.

My rule of thumb is if they don't mention it, its off limits. When I have sitters over, I generally follow the 20$ rule, because they can use it for Pizza or consider it a tip.

answered a question Can dogs fall in love?

Supposedly they can. New research is showing that when dogs see our faces, or smell our scents, their brains release oxytocin which is the love hormone also found in humans. Scientists found this by training dogs to sit in MRI machines and scanned them using various ques from owners and strangers. Although dogs are thought to be about as smart as a 5 yr old, they do undergo the same chemical reactions as in humans. Will they write ballads, sonnets, and prose about it. Probably not =)

asked a question Do meet and greets sync with your calendar?

I noticed that when I schedule meet and greets through Rover, the calendar does not get immediately updated as it would for a booked stay. Yet when you look at your calendar, you can check the option next to display meet and greets. Should I be doing something manually?
