Can I tip my pet sitter?

If you would like to tip your sitter, I'm sure he/she would be appreciative. As for whether tipping is expected, they're never "expected." Opinions about tipping sitters vary widely here. Some believe their contracted fees are all that is necessary, while others believe dogsitting is no different from other service for which tipping is very customary. The fact is you are entrusting the care of your fur baby to an individual, something which is far more significant than bringing you an iced tea or doing your nails. There is no right or wrong.

Tipping is a nice way to express appreciation when your sitter (or other service provider) has done a great job. Consider it especially if they have exceeded your expectations.

I've tipped my sitters in the past, though I do think it's better, as a sitter, to not expect it and be pleasantly surprised!

Tipping always tells me I did a great job! It might just be a CA thing, but so far all my tips have been in alcohol forms which has made for a very happy husband seeing as I dont drink myself. Even if its not for me, I know the owner was thinking of me, and grateful for my service.

Yes, you should tip your sitter! This is no different then any other service based profession such as Hair Stylist, Manicurist, Groomer, Newscarrier, Car Valet, or Waiter/Waitress. I think that tipping is a wonderful way to tell your sitter that you appreciate their work, especially if they went above and beyond for you or your dog. If you were a last minute reservation, or your dog destroyed your sitters home, or that your sitter just did everything you hoped for and then some, tipping is a very obvious sign that you appreciated all they did for you. It's not mandatory, of course, but if you're planning to use that sitter again it's a good way to spread some goodwill and make your sitter want to work with you again, in spite of a destructive dog or something you left out at the meet and greet that ended up being a very important thing to know. Good rule of thumb, you need to remember that this is a part of the service industry, and just like you tip well at a restaurant you go to often or whatever, tipping your sitter is an easy way to show your gratitude and appreciation for all they've done for you. It truly makes our day.

We are working in a "service" related job. I believe it is really nice for client's to tip their sitter the same way they tip the person that cuts their hair or a food servers at the restaurant. Personally, I don't expect a tip, but if I get one it always makes me happy and not because I got a little extra cash, but the tip indicates that the client was really happy with the service I provided to their pet and that's always a great thing.
