Hi, I'm starting to gather items to do taxes and am wondering if there is somewhere that you can find out how much your total payment to Rover was this year, meaning the 15% that is deducted from our stays?? Thanks, Nanci
Actually, the premise of this question isn't accurate.
None of us pay Rover any percentage technically.
After the quote is approved, Rover collects and retains the money until after the stay is complete, and then Rover Pays the sitter/walker an amount with the percentage (15% , or 25% for Premier, or 50% for Match) deducted for Rover's services (promotion, business/customer support, insurance, administration, etc.)
The amount that Rover sends you is all you need to consider.
You don't need that for your taxes. The 15% that Rover takes has nothing to do with your taxes; it isn't withholding like an employer is required to do for your federal or state taxes, but a percentage for Rover's services. Moreover, you can't claim it as any kind of business expense since you didn't explicitly pay it.. What you received was net.
To add onto the other answers, you will be paying your federal/state taxes only on the money that you collect; that is, the amount that you actually cash out by check or paypal. That is your gross income. If you donate money (through the sit a dog, save a life program), that is also not counted toward taxable income, because it was already pre-tax.
