how do you set holiday rate for a second dog?

How do I set the holiday pay for an extra dog? Currently the second dog comes up at the same rate as the first dog ($30) each. I want the second dog to be $20 for the holidays. How do I adjust this?

Hi Jessica (or anyone else out there who wants to reply to this), We are both similar with our rates and being somewhat new sitters. I am wondering how you came up with the second dog rate? I have a request in and my holiday rate is $31. The second dog rate defaulted to $31 as well and the client is questioning that. I have only sat single dogs before and I see there is an additional dog rate. How many out there use an additional dog rate, how many just charge a fee for the first dog, and how many charge the same fee for both dogs? Since our holiday rate is really low (I see some with our experience level and number of reviews charging $39 for the first dog), I wonder what is appropriate for the final bottom line Total to charge? Have you thought through this... (more)

But both those sitters have more experience than us and 7-12 reviews.

I just want to bump this as I'm having a question about it as well. See my reply to Jessica. Not so much the technical part of it as the rate setting part.

I follow pretty much the same method as Cari. I'd just apply my normal second dog discount to the holiday rate. My second dog rate is $10 less than my regular rate, so I'd edit the cost to reflect $10 off my holiday rate instead.

You can edit the stay request from the conversation. You can adjust which pre-set price is used for the second dog (Holiday or Additional Dog rate) as well as change the rates associated with those options. For example, if you leave the second dog set to the holiday rate you can then adjust that rate for that dog only to $20/night.

What I do is discount the second dog by $5. I only take one dog at a time, or one dog family. Therefore, the dogs are familiar with each other. My reasoning for giving a small discount is that it doesn't take much more time or effort to care for two dogs than it does for one. I don't accept large dogs, which might make a difference. So far my smaller clients haven't been any extra trouble, and it helps that they have each other to play with. And I've looked at other sitters in my area, and they either give a similar or no discount.

so for the holiday rate, I just edit the stay price to reflect the $5 discount for the second dog. To edit the price, just click on Edit beside the total price, and you can then adjust any or all of the pieces of the price.
