I used my soon-to-expired credit to book a reservation, then I modified the reservation after expiration, did not get refund?

Is it expected? I booked a boarding using credits which was going to expire on 3/31 then recently our schedule has changed, we modified the reservation, thinking if we get the credit back but didn't. Is it expected?
