Drop in M&G in their home?

I’m brand new here and still awaiting my approval. I’m going to start slowly, with a drop-in. Question: Do I schedule the M&G in their home? (So I can get familiar with the home, meet the dog, get keys, etc). Is that safe for me to just show up at someone’s home?

When I started with Rover years ago, I was scared too. I hated going to people's houses when you don't even know their full name, as Rover won't give out their names for a meet and greet. I would always google the location and find who really lives there. When in doubt, I would contact Rover to confirm those people are real and legit (if they had any bookings before, how many and/or if there were any complaints etc). Rover always answers my questions and will confirm if the person used a credit card for booking previously). I would also let the potential client know that a person will be coming with me (driving me I'd tell them) and I would ask if they prefer that my family member/close friend waited in the car or would they prefer the person come up with me to meet them too. Never ever my potential clients said NO to meeting my close friend who is with me for safety reasons. I like to communicate with my clients before hand and I like to discuss everything, and it's been working out really well for me. I also carry personal protection.

Rover will tell you that if you do not feel comfortable, then do not go and just cancel.

But never ever just show up at someone's house. Always plan well and ask questions. Good luck.

Yes, that's exactly what you need to do. You can't just show up blindly. It is always best to meet with the owner and dog, go over what they expect you to do, and most importantly find out about you will gain access (get key , lockbox, garage code, whatever).

If you don't feel safe (which is justifiable since Rover performs NO security check on pet owners), then you should bring someone with you. They might stay outside while you meet with the pet owner, but make sure they know that you have someone outside waiting for you.

Thank you for the feedback. Then what would be a reason to do a meet & greet at a neutral outdoor location?

It has to do with dogs and their territoriality and the belief that a dog will be more accepting of meeting strangers outside. I don't prescribe to that belief myself.

I always schedule a Meet & Greet for all my drop-in clients so I can make sure the dogs like me, and I want to speak with clients face-to-face so they know exactly how I interact with their animals. I am pretty familiar with my area so if it is a place I am not comfortable going alone, I would have my husband drive me. Good luck☮️

Safety first! As a single lady going to a stranger's house, I call or text a friend and tell her where I'm going and when. She will call me about 30 minutes after my meeting time if she doesn't hear from me before that.
