Rover owner lied about their dog, What should I do?

Hi, I am watching a pitty mix. The owner and I could only do a virtual meet and greet and said that their dog is friendly but nervous. She is also reactive but I can handle that.

However while walking she is caked and smells of pee because she has a UTI , and she consistently pees blood. And she pees on herself when you try to touch her She has tried to nip at my face while putting on her coat and harness which doesnt fit . And she has lunged at me while I leave.

The owners are extremely disorganized and lack communication but also get after me about the smallest things. Like leaving her coat off when I explained that she wouldn’t let me put it on, and putting on her coat first before her harness because that is the easiest way she lets me do it. They also didn’t give the dog sitter keys to give me

Super dangerous and I don’t want anyone to be put in the situation I am in.

Sounds like you shouldn't have anymore video meet and greets. Also, you know what questions to ask. Chalk it up to learning experience for pet sitting.

Rover needs a sitter to sitter feedback. I’m currently dealing with a similar issue. She can’t keep sitters and there are a dozen reasons why.

That poor dog. Is there a way to report owners for neglect or dishonesty on rover?

Rover is a platform, not animal control. They do not provide services or animal care.

I have done meet and greets and see the dog but sometimes they are a completely different dog during the visit. The one I have right now is a couch potato according to her owners, but she is screaming and crying and barking all night.

That baby Is anxious. I am sure The dog doesn't act like that when they are home. Ask them if maybe you can give him something over the counter for anxiety? If not then maybe you should keep animals that don't cry when their owners are gone! Cats? Bunny's?

Like many others, I wouldn’t book services for that dog, but you wrote that you can handle that. Since you’re finding that the pet owners communication is lacking, at this point the only solution is for you to initiate communications and tell them what is happening/necessary.

Her UTI with blood in urine could be easily remedied , if the owners supplied you with the med’s. from vet, or authorized treatment with direct payment to vet and you brought dog to vet. If the UTI was resolved, the dog’s demeanor may be more cooperative and friendly. Obviously, she must not be feeling well and so is not going to be on her best behavior.

People do meet and greet so they are not in the situation you are in. Your refusal to do a meet and greet in person resulted in this horrible situation. I can't possibly imagine a sitter refusing a meet and greet in person for a pit mix over the Christmas time. I understand the vision of money was stronger than everyone's safety at that moment, but you should seriously reconsider your priorities when you get a request from a stranger and a dog you have never met before.
