There is a new agreement with Stripe. Is it worth staying with Rover?
I tried reading over the agreement and did not see any information regarding service fee charge to us. Rover is already taking 20% of what I earn. I doubt customers will pay more if I increase my fees :(
The constant flow of new customers Rover provides definitely makes staying with Rover worth it for me.
There are no additional fees associated with the change to Stripe. The percentage rover withholds from total amount of booking remains the same.
Federal laws changed such that the tax threshold was significantly lowered starting in 2022 (previously some sitters have earned so little that IRS would label it as a hobby with practically no tax consequences-that changed no matter how money is paid out, even through PayPal and other processors)
I am a fan of using Rover, especially if a pet parent is highly cautious. Even though the Rover Guarantee does not cover much, and is only a vet bill if something is my fault, I make sure the client understands this first. It is often a misconception that the Rover Guarantee is some type of insurance for their pet. It is not! Also, the price that the customer sees is higher than what we post as our rates. For instance, if my boarding rate is $45/night, the rate they see is something like $50/night. I got to know a client very well and they told me this. So they are also upcharging our clients. Keep in mind, when you get paid by Rover, a percentage of what you make should go into a savings account so you can pay your taxes (typically around 20%) at the end of the year.
I just checked my rates in a different browser and not logged in, so Rover doesn't know it is me. My rates are no different than what I set. Since 2016, Rover also charges customers a service fee, in addition to what it takes from us. Our rates are not changed.
