Should I be charged for a booking that hasn't been confirmed?

I'm new to Rover so apologies if this question gets asked all the time. I tried to book a cat sitter and selected book now and put in my card details. It is showing as 'pending their response' and I've got no email confirmation of the booking as the sitter hasn't confirmed, which is fine. However, if I log in to my online banking, I can see a payment of £79 has been taken and my balance has been reduced (this is the booking amount).

I'm really uncomforable with this process - surely I shouldn't get charged for a booking that hasn't been confirmed? It should be once the other person confirms? How do I get it refunded if they don't confirm? Not really happy, on pawshake it just took the money on confirmation from what I recall.

This is an easy fix. Call rover customer support tel:[Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Visit the Rover Help Center at https://support.rover.com/ to find the phone number, help articles, or chat with the team]...or you can use the Help button shown at the bottom, to send an email to rover. Rover can reverse the funds back to you. It’s similar to booking a hotel room and the hotel pings your credit card, but it’s not final until the dates of stay. It’s not a con. I realize there’s a learning curve using Rover, but basically you do Not want to click “book it now” until you want to book a service.

When an owner clicks book it now, Rover pings the credit card. I’ve believed that the funds were not actually removed until the sitter also clicked book it now, which perhaps they already did. You can send messages, including all the planned dates, without clicking “book it now” & I would suggest you do Not click “book it now” until you are ready to confirm the booking. After book it now is clicked, Rover holds those funds and does not pay the walker or sitter until at least a couple days after the booking dates ended.

thanks but there's no booking showing in my bookings, just pending requests that can't be cancelled. But the money had been taken which I want back, was on my debit card... this feels like a con. Money taken but no service or agreement between parties, and I can't stop it???
