Should you prioritize new clients or repeat clients?

I have been a sitter on rover for about six months. I have had potential repeat clients reach out to me about the same pet sitting dates as new clients. Which one should I prioritize? For example, right now I have a meet and greet set for a new client, and so far I don’t see any reasons we won’t book, their dog seems very sweet. I have also been asked by a client I have pet sat for before for the same dates, and I love their dog. I have said no to the potential repeat customer before because I already had a pet sitting job for when they asked. I’m worried that if I keep saying that I’m already booked, then they’ll just give up on asking me and move onto someone else, which I don’t want. I don’t know if I should prioritize potential repeat clients or new clients. Any suggestions?

You’re correct- if you say no, you run the risk of your client of finding & building loyal relationship with another sitter, especially if they have a great experience. If it’s a repeat client that you want to retain, I’d suggest prioritizing them higher. However there may be times when you’ve already accepted another booking and you’ll have to explain to them if you can a can/can’t accommodate.

If this was for boarding service: Another approach is if you were to build a clientele of dogs who would get along well with each other and some adult was there to monitor or you had safe places to separate when no supervision was present, you may be able to accept more than one dog at a time.

Deb, she only offers house sitting and can't be in two locations at once.

Oh, thanks for pointing that out.
