Has anyone else been asked to surrender someone's dog FOR them?

Wow! The low depth of humanity never ceases to amaze me. That is one freaking heartless person! I’ve never encountered that .My first inclination would be to research local rescue groups, share details, and asked if any of them would be willing to accept this dog. If I could help with the to rehome or transition on the way to a home, I would let the owner know and request they do owner surrender that way.

Fourth of July activities spooks a lot of pets who unintentionally run away and end up in the shelters. The shelters then run out of space and face the awful dilemma/decision of having to euthanize healthy well-adjusted dogs to make space for others. Essentially, this owner is probably sending their dog to end of life via a stranger and won’t even be there to hold the paws.

After quickly reading your profile, and seeing you don’t have a dog ( but love them etc), this low life owner may have been hoping upon hearing their need, that you’d offer to adopt their dog instead of surrender to M S P C A.

An owner was admitted to the hospital and needed emergency care for her aging/ailing dog. The first Rover sitter was unable to accommodate the pet’s needs. I was asked to take the dog from that sitter. I was able to care for the dog but she would not eat or even drink. She was failing. The regular vet agreed to take the dog and I had to sign surrender agreement on behalf of the owner as she was still in the hospital. So heartbreaking. I don’t know how it all ended up but I think about them every day. .
