We will be taking an out of state trip in June, and will need someone to watch our dogs for one night. What's the best way to request?

We live in Michigan and are driving to Virginia in our RV for 10 days. We need a sitter (that we can drop off 2 dogs to, or who would sit in our camper) for one night whilst we are at a concert. We cannot (and would not) leave the dogs by themselves in the camper in County Park Campsite. And, we can't rely on a place for a meet and greet on the day, in case there is no availability. We've not used Rover so far, as we've had boarding nearby. Can anyone help me with what to ask sitter for/how to engage with an out of state sitter?

First, I’d enter the zip code for the campgrounds and use the map plus sign to zoom into the surrounding area when clicking search sitters. If you’re planning to have a sitter watch your dogs while you’re away from home, you’ll want to thoroughly read profiles to try to find the best match. Look for sitters with Repeat Clients and Verified reviews (Which means booked and paid through rover), as this indicates experience level. You’re welcome to exchange messages on the platform, but I’d encourage you to use each sitter’s rover assigned phone number to have a transparent conversation with them. Be sure to discuss your needs and pet preferences. Since your pets will be away from home, with strangers, it’s very important to find the right match so the dogs will be comfortable and not bolt from anxiety.

If you want the sitter to stay at the camper with your dog, let them know what the earliest start time and latest return time and that you’re looking for a sitter who will stay with your dogs the entire time. If you want to drop off the dogs at the sitters home, I’d suggest you ask all the questions that you normally would, plus if your dogs are known to be escape artists who could bolt- what precautions they take (How much traffic (human or pets) going on&out of their home? Is gate barrier fencing used as a double stop by entry door? Main door not facing street? Dogs not outside unleashed nor unattended? )
