Should I do meet and greets at my home?
How do people feel about meet and greets in their own homes? I've had a person request one for an upcoming pet sit, but I just don't know how I feel about letting a stranger into my home. Someone can seem nice enough via message, but something makes me feel weird about it! I understand someone wants to see where their pet is going to be staying (and rightly so), and they want to know they can trust you etc. But is it a good idea? Is there a potential for scamming through these sites?
The more I let my mind wander, the more I think... There are people out there who would go to the lengths of setting up a fake profile, complete with fake pictures, just to find out your address. But I don't know if I'm being irrational or if this is something I should be concerned about.
On the other hand, what are peoples thoughts on meeting at the pet owners houses? I know there are some really common sense things to do like keeping people updated on your whereabouts, having somebody call you at a specified time, trusting your instincts etc. But I'm prone to worrying/overthinking as it is, and would really benefit from some logical answers!
Any help or advice from the community would be great! Thanks :)
Doing them at your home helps the dog familiarize itself with your home before feeling abandoned there, because the first visit they go home. I've had some people totally want to explore my whole house and property.
Thanks Monica, I didn't think about the feelings of abandonment etc! I know pets can feel very confused about their new surroundings and I suppose that plays into it. Much appreciated 😊
@MonicaM Owners have no right to see your entire home. You show them what you feel they need, and if an outdoor space is where dogs might be, then you would show them that as well. I usually do show them the backyard and how safe it is and how their dog cannot escape.
