Looks like no more choices for sitters re. Payments via rover
Rover should offer both- Paypal was way better and I got my money way faster without another platform needing my private information.
Agreed. This is already turning some sitters away. I will be looking into other options rather than Rover now. They used to be easy to do business with, now they are not. Already having issues getting paid with this Stripe payment method and I have to wait an entire week. PayPal was instant.
I agree. It would be so simple to use both PayPal and Stripe. They probably have an exclusive deal with Stripe now and get paid for doing so. It's a shame. I used to love Rover. It was so simple to use and now the wait to be paid is not worth the hassle.
I agree. I have been battling with Rover since February. I have not received $888 owing to me. They keep telling me to update my bank account information, call my bank to confirm, sent them a void check that they said they were submitting to Stripe over and over. I did everything I'm done with Rover
Waiting days to get paid in a modern economy is ridiculous. Companies freezing your pay is abhorrent abuse. This is no way to foster any loyalty to Rover.
In my opinion, it’s too early to tell, but so far I’m not a fan of trading security for convenience. To me, the less platforms that possess my personal information, the more secure it is. Adding Stripe may be beneficial in terms of direct deposit, but now PayPal, Stripe, and Rover possess my banking information. In addition, Stripe does not have as seamless of an interface as PayPal in my opinion. PayPal is more user friendly and also allows me to have a separate account strictly for business purposes (expenses, a business debit card, etc.), which helped with taxes. Furthermore, I’m not a fan of being forced to hand out my SSN to a new company that I’m unfamiliar with, and with a “do it by this deadline or else” approach. It’s unprofessional.
Moreover, Rover claims that they are switching to Stripe due to a survey that showed 70% of sitters prefer direct deposit. But, those same sitters might have answered the survey differently had they known that they would also need to create an account with a third party apart from Rover and PayPal. In addition, I’m curious if the 70% feedback was from full-time sitters, because if it wasn’t, then Rover may have mistakenly ignored many of their sitters that reel in most of their revenue, which is a major oversight. Also, in my experience, direct deposit is a payment that is scheduled to occur on a specific date - not 2 days later plus an unknown amount of days based on the bank. Additionally, in my experience, direct deposit typically occurs between an employer and its employee’s bank - not a third party, such as Stripe, which is why it’s called ‘direct’ deposit instead of roundabout deposit. In my opinion, Rover may lose the trust of many sitters by appearing less than truthful, even if its true intention is to benefit its sitters.
Rover became a public company in 2021 (i.e. launched an IPO). My hope is that will benefit us sitters in the long term, even though it may be rocky in the short term. However, in my experience with Rover, my concern is that its leadership rarely understands what the role of an in-home pet care provider entails. And sometimes, I wonder how much experience the sitter support team has in that area as well, and with working with pets in general. With all due respect to leadership, Rover could possibly destroy its pet care industry competitors as history has known them, but it continues to frustrate its sitters - unintentionally I assume. Regardless, as a full-time sitter, I can only hope that by Rover launching an IPO it created an influx of options at their disposal that will benefit us all long term. But, in the grand scheme of things, every company is only as good as its reputation, and currently, Rover seems to be trending in the wrong direction in terms of valuing its sitters’ experiences.
By no means do I plan to ...
Add me to the list of people having payout issues. I have not been paid through Stripe processing once. I'm owed for five bookings and close to 1K
I'm so upset with this change!!! I hate going through Stripe! I wish Rover would let us make a choice. Why not offer both if they're so intent on having Stripe as an option??
I too am extremely upset with this change. Not only do I have to wait 2 days for the money to be available to me, but now I have to wait another 5 to get it deposited and that’s after they verify my information. PayPal I got my money instantly. I think this is going to turn a lot of sitters away.
Stripe is not secure. It sells our personal data. Rover should give us the option to choose how to get paid. Here is an article which shows STRIPE's data breach... https://news.bloomberglaw.com/banking-law/stripe-must-face-consumer-privacy-claims-over-data-on-purchases
the worst idea EVER. i am looking into other ways to get paid, as i am due $ also. have a balance in my rover wallet and NO way to access my own pay?!?!? this is abuse and neglectful on rover's end. do we have any kind of legal push back?
Hate this change to Stripe and I don’t like giving out my social security number. PayPal was working just fine for me.
Yeah direct deposit seems like something that an employer could do. As private contractors, we should be able to choose our payout method, instead of jumping through hoops to accommodate the rover method. There have got to be kickbacks of some sort, or trying to get around laws they are breaking.
Not happy with the decision to change payment service from PayPal to Stripe. It's not about the taxing, as I have reported my Rover income on my taxes, it is giving my Social Security number to a online provider that I have no idea how secure their website will be in the future.
You should Google "Stripe Data Breach" and "Paypal Data Breach" to alleviate your concerns. No need for you to worry needlessly.
My concern has zero to do with any alleged data breach. What pisses me off is , NOBODY asked me. Rover just made the decision. Well Rover, you just decided me out of a business relationship with you. Someone made a very stupid decision.
I agree... I don't know what it going on now.
I'm beyond upset about this change. Rover wants me to give them my bank account info NOT STRIPE as the emails suggest. NO where does Rover provide the info on how they are SECURING that info or guarantee to me that they won't SELL that info to any third party. What the HELL is going on??
I am also leaving ROVER as soon as my current bookings are over. 5 of my friends are doing the same. This is a terrible business decision.
They are losing big! I’m going to look at the rights of independent contractors, and see if they can legally do this.
This may be why some people are not getting their payment: Phishing Stripe Sign-in Page If they enter their credentials, the attacker now has access to their account, giving them the power to change bank information, redirect incoming payments, and send fraudulent payment requests.
They say they asked, but they never asked me. I’ve been using rover for 5 years, and had never had any issues with payouts until they made the change. PayPal worked great, and it was way easier to keep track of transactions and manage everything for taxes.
I'm very happy with paypal and also use venmo for other transactions. I don't want to sign on to another service and have my data out there. Please keep paypal!
Why are you changing this? Is there any other way to receive payments other than stripe?
Thanks
Big mistake is what I think. There are other ways to certify a bank account for direct deposit then the way stripe does it with a social security number. They just need your account number and routing number and then you can verify the amount of 2 small deposits to link the account.
As independent contractors, neither Rover nor stripe should have your SSN. Every time you give out your SSN you risk identity theft. In this situation, they do not need your SSN to confirm your account but are requiring it. We are independent contractors. There is absolutely no reason they need it. That's a huge issue for me. Enough so that I'm looking for other options to replace Rover. I will not be giving out my SSN to a company I am not an employee of.
Daniel, they do not need the SSN to verify the bank account. They need it because the law has changed, Starting in 2022, mobile payment apps like Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, Stripe and Zelle are required to report business transactions totaling more than $600 per year to the IRS.
Karen, so would PayPal be needing our social security number now anyway then? That actually makes me feel a little bit better about this then. I am also very uncomfortable giving my bank account info and soc to a company I don’t know.
Yes, Paypal would need your SSN to report 2022 earnings if you earned $600 before making the transition to Stripe. Paypal generated 1099s for me last year and reported them to the IRS and my state because it had already lowered the requirement for earnings from third-party payment processors.
HA! Guess I'm not the only one going crazy with the screwed up system called "Stripe". My bank account info was entered early January. I was paid thru Stripe for a client that stayed second week of January. I did get the monies into my bank account though later than it would be with PayPal. Everything went smoothly. Now this past week I have sent emails back and forth to Rover and then to Stripe asking for resolution to the current problem of not being paid for my most recent client. NOTHING HAS BEEN RESOLVED. I have several bookings coming up..........lots of money involved...........very concerned that I will be screwed .
Yeah, I don’t understand why they are yanking us around like this. I am the top rated sitter in my area, and have tons of repeat clients. I can’t even make booking right now. Everything was already verified and working. This is very very suspicious. Apparently rover has been in some hot water
When I look at the reasoning Rover switched to stripe, they say it was based on 70% of sitters saying they wanted direct deposit. Who is this 70%? I was not asked NOR was I informed of the change until I noticed I wasn’t getting my payment. I check my account just to find out I have to sign up with stripe. In addition to that, Rover does NOT show up on my stripe account so I can’t even check on there where my funds are. This is not a bank issue, this is a Rover/stripe issue. Rover should communicate with the people who keep this company running, us. Now I have missing payments & bills due overdue. If this isn’t fixed I will take my clientele elsewhere.
I get Rover holds my payments for 2 days after a job is completed. This is what I agreed to. What I find ridiculously lacking in thought is that I’ve been waiting for my payment to be transferred via Stripe for 6 days!! After 5 years I’m finished with Rover. They just shouldn’t mess with people’s $
Yeah for the 20% they charge, nothing shows for it. They charge the owners more than that too. I got bit by a dog last year and realized that sitters aren’t protected at all under the terms of service. A ton of articles on line show that the pet parents aren’t protected either
Who do you even contact to tell them what a mistake they have made. If I cannot get my money right away there is no way I'm staying with rover.. what a shame
They don’t even have a phone number for sitters to contact them anymore. Super sus. They’ve got to be doing something quite illegal.
If Rover corporate doesn't change there decision to allow payment to be processed via PayPal, does anyone have suggestions on another service to migrate to? Or is any of the ambitious sitters now considering starting a similar service, that will be offering payment via PayPal? If you do know of any definitely post it in a rumble video. I'll be searching there. Maybe someone could start a "Patriot dog service". Link to it via the new Trump Truth network.
David Bowie Currently a Rover sitter in Candia NH
PS, that might be ending January 31 with there decision to increase the Federal tax impact of working with Rover.
I created a Chime account JUST for my business. I'm not giving anyone my personal checking account information, if I can prevent it.
Rover bad call on Stripe. The way to implement would have been to set a specific payout date (for ex. Wags pays out via strip weekly. So payments hit accounts every Friday). When “sitters” asked for direct deposit, no one meant a direct deposit that could take weeks, seeing as things only operate on Business Days. I think that what folks wanted was a way to avoid the “withdrawal to PayPal” step and perhaps a way to sidestep Rover’s instant transfer fee. When you guys said switch to direct deposit, we envisioned a normal, organized, and TIMELY approach to getting paid. I would gladly sacrifice a few dollars to get my payments immediately. This is pure insanity. I really relied on the quick cash. You guys have got to find a resolution.
This is the biggest mistake I've seen from Rover corporate yet. Killing the PayPal option is just stupid. There must be money being kicked back to key people in Rover corporate to get them to do this. I expect a number of sitters will jump ship because of this. I'm now looking for another service
Although there could be some financial incentive for rover to push All payments to Stripe, another possibility & my hunch is that Stripe is more aligned with electronically documenting all the money exchanged (focused on recipients, to ensure taxed accurately).
Has anyone had an issue getting payment from stripe to your bank ? It has failed several times. My banking info is correct, I asked Rover and they said contact my bank. I have Wells Fargo…but I don’t think they would stop an incoming payment ?
I’m really upset with this change. Please keep the PayPal option.
I also just found out it takes two weeks to get your payment. Why do you think we can wait this long? Two weeks after the job ends? This is really not ok. I need my money to be available when I get paid.
Also, I called stripe to see why it takes so long and was actually told by the company that Rover made a bad choice switching to stripe. I hope they read this and fix this situation. When a company’s own employees say to avoid it, that really means something.
Yea. It's already awful how little we make per hour... This was just another action that shows our voices don't matter.
oops, big brother is watching..
My payments are failing and now my money is sitting with Rover and inaccessible. I haven’t talked to my bank yet. Not happy since it’s almost a week now.
If you have $ on Rover still Before it reaches 1/31/22 , make a paypal Cash out that way That seems to be the only option that pops up on payment options . You can even request a check, even with an online bank. They have a routing number the online banks.
I switched to Stripe and haven't gotten paid yet, even though my payment history for last two services marked as "fulfilled". I reached out to Rover's customer support via email and called them, but nothing. I have other bookings coming up, might cancel them since I don't know where my money is goin
I noticed that it will take 5 days to reach our bank account whereas it took 3 days with paypal. Why the additional time? I hope that someone from Rover addresses these questions.
😡😡😡😡😡😡
Omg I’m so glad I came across this because I’ve been dealing with the same issue! It’s been past 3 days and my money is still not in my bank account. I contacted rover and they said that they don’t have my earnings because it’s been fulfilled but where is it if it still isnt in my bank account?
They’re very fast to take that 20% off our earnings but not very fast to give us what WE earned from the work WE put in. I’m thinking about getting off this app. We got bills to pay. I don’t need a company messing with my money.
I hate this Stripe option. It’s bad enough we had to wait 2 days AFTER we fulfilled our obligations, but now I’m being told 5-7 days to go into my bank. PayPal was 2 days like clockwork. So disappointed and upset about this change.
I agree! I hate the change! Why should we have to wait even longer for money we worked for!! Two days is long enough. With PayPal my money was deposited right after midnight on the 2nd day and now still waiting! For the alleged “70%” of people that voted for this. Let them have it, I don’t want it!
I'm upset. PayPal was working fine. Now I got paid on the third day, another recent booking is giving me five days, when with PP I was used to getting paid on the second day.
Add me to the list of people having payout issues. I have not been paid through Stripe processing once. I'm owed for five bookings and close to 1K
Terrible so far.
