How do you write good daily updates?

I'm struggling with coming up with good messages when sending the owner daily updates on their pets. This is especially true if I'm boarding or housesitting for multiple days and it feels like I'm writing the same things. What do you write?

I always send photos or videos because I think owners miss their pets and just want to see them. My messages are usually something short and generic like "Hi Jane! Fido is doing great and we're going on lots of walks daily. He's eating and sleeping well and we're playing lots of fetch" which feels odd to say repeatedly on multiple days. I might include a little more detail - "Hi Jane, Fido is doing great! He has his first walk at 7am and a few more throughout the afternoon including some long walks. He's eating a little bit less than I feed him but is eating well. He's also enjoying time on the balcony." I wonder if I should just write something fun and silly and informal.

I hear ya, esp. w/recurring stays. I make it fun & write as if I was hanging w/friends. Ex: “We watched SNL & agreed that Lizzo was amazing. Now [doge] wants to see her in concert! Lol” Then I add a pic of us snuggling & getting belly rubs while watching. I include important deets when needed ofc.

I don't provide a recap of the dog's entire day. Instead I try to make it a story, focusing on an activity or incident I noticed during the day and I write it up in detail. Some examples: I might take the dog with me to the UPS store where they give out dog treats, so I will describe what the dog did there and how it interacted with the owners. Or how the dog was fixated on a certain toy. I will definitely start out by saying the dog is eating and doing well overall at the beginning, but I try to tell them a little story of a cute situation.

It sounds like you are providing good updates. There is a wide range implied by “ fun silly and informal”. Probably the answer will vary for different clients. When you get to know them through communication, it’s easier to gauge the comfort level with fun, silly, informal comments. As long as you keep it relevant to their dog, it probably will be fine.

Definitely depends on the relationship I have with the owner. My mannerisms differ with each client. Some I’m super silly and animate the animal. Other times it’s short sweet and to the point. I try to write the review during the visit so it’s easier.

I usually only send pictures unless the pet has done something noteworthy that day. I think just by sending pics, the owner sees that their fur baby is doing well and I am being attentive to their needs as well as their pets. ``
