Not quite sure how the new tax reporting works for sitters. I get paid through Paypal and I keep getting the alerts that I need to confirm my taxpayer status and provide my Tax ID number. Help!
You are an independent contractor and you file with your own Social Security Number. Your SSN is also your Tax ID. Paypal is required to report your earnings from Rover; therefore, it needs to confirm your Tax ID. Just follow whatever instructions Paypal has given you to confirm this info or call Paypal, if necessary. Nothing alarming or scary. No different from providing your SSN to banks or other companies/institutions that provide you with income.
PS, you may not actually receive a paper 1099 next year from Paypal, Even though Paypal's own correspondence indicated that it would be send in the mail, it never was. I also specifically requested they send mine; it never was.. However, the info was downloadable from Paypal's website. Very easy.
