Business license as a Rover sitter in my city?

I started Rover sitter this month. I tried to apply for business license on City of Walnut Creek website but "Business Type" selector didn't have options that Rover is suggesting "Pet Care Services". What are the business types you Rover sitters put? Anyone had the same issue?

Also Do I need to apply business license to the city (Walnut Creek)? or California? Or both?

I did Rover for six years in Walnut Creek area without any license. If you keep all of your transactions on the Rover app then the city is not looking for you. I feel it is more important to get additional pet sitting insurance to cover any damages to client’s homes or the dog during your services.

If you plan to advertise online through Google, Nextdoor ect., then continue seeking a license from Walnut Creek using dog walking or pet boarding. Both city license and insurance are beneficial in attracting and retaining clients.

Not all states or communities require licenses, some do. Some communities won't allow you to offer daycare or home boarding. Your best course of action is to call your local government office for advisement
