Clarity on Extended Stay Rate Please, is it an add-on or not?

Please clarify Extended Stay Rate. My issues are:

First, please clarify if Extended Stay Rate is an add-on cost? If so, why are pet owners booking with me using the Extended Stay Rate for the initial booking?

From reading the Q&A and Rover's definition, there are conflicts. Some are saying Extended Rate is for stays longer than xx amount of days (to be selected by the sitter). Some are saying its the additional days added to the original days and Rover says it's the difference between the drop off and pick up times (2hr difference). For example if an owner dropped off at 10a 8/18 and picked up 11a 8/20 that's within the 2hr time and no extended stay rate is charged.

Because of the way my bookings were coming in, I had to adjust my extended stay rate so I could make anything along with Rover's fees. I love dogs and give them 100% love, safety and comfort while in my care but the whole extended stay rate being unclear is making it difficult to know how to price myself. Why is the Rover system even allowing an add-on (extended care rate) to be used for an initial booking?

Think I need to amend my previous long answer because you may not be asking about the Extended Care rate, even though you refer to its use in your question. My advice to you is to get rid of it on your rate table, then you will be paid $40/night for every night in a stay or change the regular boarding charge to $50 if that's what you intended. There is no requirement to have this pricing structure. I do not. Just get rid of the $ amount and day number and it will not be used.

There is a new charge that Rover is testing. The Extended Care Rate will be automatic and is a good thing. Unfortunately, Rover has not updated the changed language in all of its FAQ section, so I see where you would be confused. Extended Care Rates are something sitters have wanted built into the system so they get paid properly for the amount of time they are actually watching a dog. Rover requires owners to enter drop off and pick up times. Previously, Rover only billed owners "per night" and ignored the fact that a dog may have been dropped off in the morning originally but isn't being picked up until the evening on the last day. Some sitters never felt comfortable modifying a booking to bet paid for the time before it was paid and felt taken advantage of by owners. Now, Rover automatically calculates the overage and charges the customer 50% for 2-8 hours over and another full night's charge if the dog is with you for 8+ hours over.

As I said this is brand new. I was only notified by email that it was being tested in early July. I would advise you to go back in and change the rates on your rate table because they make no sense. You charge $40 a night but then have the Stays Longer Than 1 Night as $50. Sitters might offer a reduced or higher rate for stays longer than a week. That one day entry is messing up your rate structure.

BTW, you do not have to have a separate rate for longer stays. I don't. You could just get rid of yours here: https://www.rover.com/provider-profile/services/overnight-boarding/ While it does still say here Extended Stay Rate, you don't have to use it. Delete the $ amount and the day one too. Save

Karen: Thanks for including the link. Perhaps adding to the confusion & inconsistency because to this is currently a test marketing program in select areas. I noticed LA & Orange & San Diego counties are excluded currently.

Thank you Karen R. I'm usually using Rover on my phone and so I'm just seeing your response. Everything you said makes 100% sense now including what you are saying about my pricing. The way I was understanding and Rover fees to what I'm paid is what I was trying to level out. thanks again!
