Do you walk the dogs in asphalt or on the grass of people’s lawns?

Rover always warns sitters about the dangers of hot asphalt on our dogs’ paws. But we also have to be respectful of the lines of people that we allow the dogs to walk on. What do you guys do? Do you keep the dog on the asphalt to avoid having encounters with residence or do you let them walk on the grass to avoid them hurting their feet?

I was actually told not to let the dog walk on the lawn by one of the neighbors. She said the dogs urine damage the lawn. So I would be careful with any signage or warning signs on the lawn and purposely pull the dog off the sidewalk to asphalt so they can see clearly that the dog is off the lawn.

It’s a great question, but not directly applicable to me (live and surrounded by shared common area residential and commercial properties with plenty of grass). If I was in your situation, I would try to keep the dogs on grassy areas where neighbors did not object or take them to a suitable grassy area. Urine is more potent and can result in grass burn out when concentrated by dogs not relieving themselves often.

It takes only 5 seconds on hot asphalt for a paw to burn! So even if only my dog wants to cross over the street, I pick up (or place in stroller) and carry across.
