On average, how long does it usually take to get your first rover client?

I've been on rover for a month or more now but still no stays. I've had people reach out but they've had to cancel. Any advice?

The pet care industry has been hit very hard by the pandemic, many are working from home, very few are traveling so that equates to few bookings if any at all. My last Rover booking was in December and it was the only one since March of 2020. Best of luck as it's not easy right now, but don't get discouraged as we will pick up over the Spring and Summer.

Thank you! This makes me feel a lot better that one day I'll get to have bundles of fun with some more doggys.

It varies based on geographic location demand for services and supply of service providers, as well as variable such as price, availability, and other matching factors. For the past year, the need for services has been significantly been decreased by Covid-19 (Less people traveling or going to the office and instead staying with their pet and taking care of the pet's needs).

After a quick glance at your profile, the rates appear in line (you could do a search of your zip to check, but I'm guessing you already did). I think the biggest items preventing more connections is:

  1. Availability (boarding availability is weekends-in my experience when people board , they want a longer period of time- sometimes a week or more. Availability for walks is better, even though it's not every day. I think walking is the part of business you may want to most actively promote.
  2. You have multiple children, ages 0-5 and 6+. And your dog is a pit bull. Not all dog owners may be eager to enter into an unknown situation with strangers' children and/or that breed, whose needs you also care for.
  3. Your residence requires some stair climbing and that may not be a good fit for some dogs. There could be other reasons, but these are what I noticed.

Fortunately, you live near the beach in Florida, so if I were in your shoes, I'd promote and focus on walking services with dog owners in your neighborhood (make friendly dog talk, hand out a business card face to face, and let them know you're available), also on social media (FB, CL, etc. with your unique code to save them $20 off & mention that) and at as many dog friendly places as are nearby. You may want to call before going and ask hotels/restaurants if they'd refer guests, vets if they'd refer, independent pet stores, etc.

Thank you for the feedback, I knew that my availability for boarding was slim and it would be a while to find a client (I will be available all of summer) plus I also know not many people are comfortable with a pit bull. Now though I will start to focus more on dog walking till I'm more available :)
