How can I get rid of fleas in the house?

I believe a dog that we sat for brought fleas into the house. We keep getting bit at night, in bed, especially around our ankles and calves. We thought it was bed bugs but fleas seem like the more likely culprit. We never had an infestation like this before. I even had dogs growing up and it wasn't like this. We live in Hawaii if that matters.

We brought some of the floor powder and a spray and used it in the bedroom, we washed all of our sheets in hot water and dryer and also even bought new sheets. Nothing seems to be working. We're going to do the living room today with the same carpet powder and spray but guessing if it didn't work in the bedroom last night, it might not work in the living room.

What are your favorite products to get rid of fleas in the household? Any tips on making your own stuff? Any advice is appreciated. because I am so itchy. Mahalo.

Clean everything And then buy knockout spray off amazon. This should help an infestation. Follow the instructions for knockout spray.

Peppermint oil works wonders! Dilute some essential oil in water & spray along all baseboards and carpets - no toxic & smells pretty great lol good luck!!

This is what I've done (and are the vet's recommendations) to resolve visiting dogs who brought fleas. Launder/Wash every soft surface textile in hot sudsy water (that includes- sheets, blankets, throw rugs, curtains, towels, dog beds, toys, etc.) Lots of laundry loads - as soon as done, in goes the next.
Vacuum everything else (furniture, sofa cushions/crevices, hard drapery, floors, etc.) and very important to take the vacuum outside the home to pull out the vacuum bag and throw out even if not full , so they can not escape the bag or hatch. This may need to be repeated frequently over next 30-60 days, due to the egg incubation cycle.

If you're diligent about this, you may not have to resort to using harsh, potentially lethal chemicals.
And for under $10, get a flea comb, that you can use on any dog. It contains no chemicals, so it can safely be used without any concern of chemical toxicity overdoes if the dog is already taking a preventative for fleas that may be ineffective at that time and happened to pick up unwelcome hitch hikers during a walk.
