I am considering adding house sitting to my services. However, I am concerned about a dog owner falsely accusing me of stealing. Does Rover offer any kind of protection against false accusations?

No additional details.

The Rover Guarantee does little to protect the sitter. Many in the community purchase their own insurance for peace of mind. Best of luck

First, never book a job without having a meet-and-greet with the owner/client and trust your instincts when you get a weird vibe about someone.

Next, always assume there are cameras in the homes. A lot of them do have them in common areas (living room or pointed at entryways), but we, as sitters, should never be doing something in a client’s home that we wouldn’t do if they were watching. Respect their property and privacy and you shouldn’t have to worry about that.

Lastly, (and someone please correct me if I’m wrong here), if you do get accused of theft, it’s true that Rover will likely not do much to protect you, but they also will not likely be able to do much for that client without proof, so at most your profile would be deactivated and the payment for that booking would be suspended until the matter was resolved definitively by local law enforcement. The burden of proof falls to the accuser.

But as someone said above, if that is truly a concern of yours, then Rover may not be the right gig for you, as we are constantly entering clients’ homes for other services like walks and drop-in visits as well.

I think if you did a background check and all came back fine, I feel that says alot about you.
