Do you put in your profile you don’t sleep over?

I’ve done a few over night stays with sitting and I’m just getting uncomfortable sleeping at other people’s homes. I don’t mind staying late and getting up super early to make sure they get out in the morning, but I’m really not comfortable sleeping there (super high anxiety about it lately). I do charge a lot less then what most other sitters are charging in my area to reflect this. Do you put in your profile (in your description) that you don’t offer that service so they are aware before reaching out?

Your feedback on this forum may be limited. If you sign up for one of the Rover Facebook groups, you may receive more input. Really, it's up to you. If I were in your shoes, I would put in my profile and again in messages prior to a meet & greet. That lessens the chances of both the pet parent and I wasting time if that's not a match, and it would reduce the number of requests not booked (part of Rover's algorithm determining placement in search results) .

Looking at rates in your area for house sitting, there were a couple under $30 and no specifics as to whether the people stayed overnight in the home. Even the more expensive sitters didn't provide any details and it sounded like one actually had a full time job, so who knows what is going on there.

You likely received so many requests because you discounted your rate to reflect the fact you wouldn't be staying in the house. That was catnip to customers. You can't count on anybody reading the fine print. So it is probably better to not offer the service. Technically, a house sitting rate should be higher, reflecting at a minimum 3 drop-ins or walks a day, plus an inconvenience fee for you to uproot yourself and take care of someone home.

BTW, there are probably plenty of sitters who don't spend their nights at the house. They inform their clients of what they'll get for the daily fee and, if the client is satisfied with it, they proceed.

I looked at your profile and you currently don't show you are offering home sitting so it makes me wonder why you would receive any requests for this service? When I started I offered home sitting and for the same reasons you mentioned I hated it so I removed the service from my profile. Only offer the services you feel comfortable with so you enjoy your Rover business.

I actually just removed it this morning since I’ve been getting so many requests for it, I definitely think I’m just not going to offer the service and stick with the very thing else.

Like I said I hated it! Good for you and best of luck in the future.
