Request for a Meet and Greet without a booking?

For the second time in less than 4 months I got a Drop In request from a lady. I responded as soon as I got the message, and she was slower than most in answering my messages, but got as far as asking about a meet and greet on the first occasion. Then she said her regular sitter came through and she didn't need me. Very frustrating. One the second request, she did the same thing, but then asked me to do a meet and greet anyway, because she wants a back up person. I am not keen on doing a meet and greet without a booking request attached. Your thoughts?

I don't mind a m&g that doesn't lead to an immediate booking. I myself am a Rover sitter, & I also use Rover sitters for my dogs. I know I can't have my favorite sitter at my beck & call. I have a few that I use (3 actually.) I'm happy to meet a client with the hope it may lead to a future booking.

Essentially, I agree with Walt. It really depends if you want to be a backup. I wouldn't go out of my way but try to arrange a M&G when you have the time and plan to be in the vicinity. See if the dog and the owner are a good fit. Perhaps when you meet the woman you might decide you really want to have nothing to do with her. LOL! It would then be easy to bow out and say that you don't think it will work out...without getting specific as to the reason. Good luck!

I will accept dogs without a meet and greet if the reason for not having one is valid. I also feel like you can get a sense of the dog and owner by reading the profile, seeing photos. for example if there are pictures of this dog being carried around by toddlers, I can probably assume this dog is good with children. If there is no photos, no prior stays no info at all, Id be hesitant

Honestly, it never hurts to be a backup sitter. I have several clients who use me when their regular walker is away as I have several walkers who cover for me when I'm away. Its a win/win in my opinion. If you aren't swamped I'd to the meet and greet to see if the client and the dog are a fit for you. Best of luck with your decision

I think being a back up sitter can at any time turn into being somebody's number 1!
