What should I do if a person and their dog are attacked by a dog being walked by a dogwalker who gives them false information and I know they work for Rover?

This is a bit of an ethical, moralistic question. I was reading a post on social media about someone who was walking their dog and there was a dog walker walking a pit and a small dog across the street. The pit got loose from its harness and attacked the dog and owner sending both for medical attention. There was a neighbor who helped. She obtained contact info and name of walker and when she asked the address the dog lives at she was told that she didn't know it. The walker contact info was false. The owner is understandably upset and trying to find walker and owner of dog. In the post was a description of the walker who had a identifying feature that enabled me to know exactly who it was. I sent her a message the only way I could think of sending a dog walk request. She did not respond. The injured owner also called customer support and was told without a phone number and email there's nothing they can do. I feel for the injured dog and owner and want to help locate the responsible person. What can I do?

This answer comes a little late, but another option would be to contact Rover by calling and asking customer service if they could facilitate communication between the rover representative ( independent contractor/walker) and either you or the injured person. Normally, Rover wouldn't divulge such info., but this borders on Trust & Safety and if the injured person filed a police report, Rover could likely be compelled to submit all info to law enforcement.

Addressing the ethical, moral part of your question, I commend you for doing whatever you can to address the situation. Humans and pets that injure others are due to have a conversation&assessment from police/animal control services. Your involvement may spare another human(s) and/or pet(s) from painful attacks.

Add'n. I agree 100% that you did the right thing. It's easy to feel a bit isolated when providing pet care. That's why there's still value in the Q&A board, even though participation is very low currently.

Thank you for saying that. I do it because it's the right thing to do. I usually don't get any recognition so that was nice. The last report I received from the injured party was that now that we have an address (I remembered it from a meet and greet years ago) the police will now take over.

I would think this is a matter for the local police and there is little Rover or this community can do to help you ID the walker. I feel for the attacked owner and their dog.

Thanks Walt. The owner contacted the police. I remembered where she lived so I let him know.

Give the information about the Rover sitter you believe to be the culpable party to the owner, who may or may not agree with you. However, you should encourage the owner to contact the police, as Walt advised.

File a Police report. Call Rover, if you wish. If you provide enough info to the police, they can contact Rover.
