What Does Everyone Think of the New Long Walk Service Option? [closed]

[Edit: I was just curious about what people think! I'm not having issues! Nor do I need help changing rates, and I can read the email I was sent just fine, thanks!]

Hello Everyone,

Just wanting to hear what my fellow sitters think of the brand new (as of this posting) option for 60-minute dog walks and drop in visits?

I'm happy that the longer drop in visits are an official option (as I already do them upon request) as well as longer walks (but what a time to introduce that for anyone who lives where it gets cold!).

What I'm not so sure about is the "default add-on rate". I'm asking because my long-walk add-on price seems kind of steep. For a 30 min walk I charge $16 (average for my area) and in the email they said my default long-walk rate would be an additional $22.

So what do you think? Did you get the same number? Different? Are you changing it?

Thanks!

Nice attitude

Thanks Walt

You can just change the rate in your rates section. I thought it was a bit steep.

My default add-on rate is an additional $8. Quite different than your $22!

That's odd, really odd. I don't do walks or drop-ins, so I wasn't aware of (or didn't pay attention to emails that might have covered) this new option. However, the add-on for your drop-in looks right or reasonable ($30 + $15). If you've gone into your rate table:

https://www.rover.com/account/profile...

and cannot change the incremental amount added for a longer walk, then I suggest you call Rover Customer Support at [Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Visit the Rover Help Center at https://support.rover.com/ to find the phone number, help articles, or chat with the team] to find out what's going on. Judging by the other, it should only be $8 extra. But, like Walt stated, you should be in total control of your rates. Rover's 50% add-on should be viewed as a suggested amount. It is your time and your business.

Hi Karen, No, that's not really what I was asking about. I haven't looked but I'm sure I can change the rate (it would be weird if I couldn't). I was just asking to see what other people had been given as the default "here's your new add on rate".

I’m all for it even though I probably won’t get many requests for the extended service. Wish they had also added 15-20 minute visits as that is popular in my area especially for cats. Even though Rover set a starting rate you are free to modify it to your liking. Best of luck And it’s not $16 plus $22 it’s $22 for the 60 minute service

Hi Walt, Yes, I understand I can change my rate, I was just curious to see what other people had been set up with. I agree, I also wish we were able to create a wider range of visiting times, but that might make things too specialized/complex on the owners side of searching.

And in the email I was sent they said, "When your client upgrades to a 60-minute walk, they’ll be charged an extra $22." Would love to attach a screenshot of that.

It seems very odd. Not sure why Rover displayed a 60 minute option that way because I don't do Rover walks. If you're on Facebook, those Rover groups likely have more walkers who will comment.

From a prospective client perspective, it totally looks like a pet parent needing you to walk their dog would be charged 16 + 22 = $48 (plus possible service fee). It lost formatting when I copied and pasted it below. Even in highly affluent areas in southern California that seems exorbitant for a walk and I'd think would steer traffic and potential walking bookings away to one of many competitors.

Dog Walking $16 in your neighborhood per walk 60 minute rate per walk + $22

On a separate note, your drop in rates vary widely from your walk rates. You may opt to review that. Looking at it from a prospective client perspective, it doesn't make sense that the drop in rate is so much more than walk rate.

Add'n.: I did not get an email about walks, because my Rover profile is turned off to those services. I know that's really the input you sought, but lately this forum has not had a lot of participation.

Often drop ins are the same rate as walks, because both are accounting for same amount of time. Though some people who don't want to do walks may charge less for drop ins than walks, since for a drop in it may only require petting/playing, feed/treat, and quick elimination relief. Hi Deb, Did you get an email about walks? I'm not on FB... but I guess I'll have to start. Yeah, I tried attaching a screenshot as well and the pathway broke. Why wouldn't my drop in rate be more than my walk rate? Other than the add.time that I need to look over I'm satisfied with my rates. Thanks

I think they undercharged for the additional half hour. However, I am very glad that the option has been added, before I would have to have my client book for 2 walks. Now they can book for 1 walk, I pay less insurance/Rover fee, and the client gets a break on the price. The additional half hour used to be full price.
