What would you do about nonstop barking due to dog being miserable in crate?

The owner fears to have to retrain her dog if she is allowed to sleep outside her locked crate. The dog is elderly deaf and blind. No one ever warns you that their dog barks nonstop. I was only told if the dog was not crated "her nose hets her in trouble." I made sure there was absolutely nothing the dog could pick up or get into and she had a quiet night last night laying beside my dog on and off then returning to her open crate.

Tonight the owner who is out of state asked me to make her dog sleep in her locked crate so the owner will not have to retrain her? It is a 5-night stay.

The dog barked a lot yesterday until she had my dog for company. Now she is doing it again. I really feel if the owner should have been honest with "barks nonstop when crated."
