Hello, if someone is asking for 16 days of dog boarding in my home wouldn't I charge them my day rate and my night rate? Or would the dog boarding (overnight) also cover a day rate?

I am just curious because my doggy daycare rate is $25 and my boarding rate is $25. But if boarding covers the night and the day, wouldn't I be paid less per hour for more hours and more work? Should the person be paying for the overnight fee and the daily fee if they want their dog watched for 24hrs?

As Walt wrote, boarding is full care for up to 24 hours. If you feel like you aren't receiving enough money, then you should raise your rates to be competitive in your local market. Remember, though, that the dog sleeps for at least 8 of those nightly hours so it isn't like you are doing anything requiring labor.

Add: Just make sure you get the drop-off and pickup times set before accepting the job. The 24-hour clock starts when the dog is dropped off. So that, if they drop off the dog at 8 am on the first day, they have to pick up the dog by 8 am on the last day. Frequently, my clients will leave in the morning and pick up at night. Under those circumstances, you would charge a daycare fee for the final day. Some will even charge another "night" of boarding if the dog is with them for more than 8-10 hours on the last day.

start time and pick up time is important to address with the client. What can a person actually afford to pay for and go on vacation? If you start adding to your prices listed, then people will not be able to afford it. Have add on services listed as well. pick/drop price. addt'l walks let them decide

Karen, how is the response from owners when you tell them you’re charging the daycare rate for them pickup at night on the last day? I’m curious because I wanted to start doing this because it happens ALL the time to me. I was just afraid that people wont like being charged more, they don’t “get it”

Boarding is typically for a 24 hour period of time. Most sitters won't charge a boarding AND a day care fee! If you feel your boarding rate is too low you should adjust it higher.

I also agree on the other two answers and/or comments. Your boarding is over night depending on how many nights your clients want and also on how much you charge for it as well. Your day care is a 24hrs only for through out the day no matter how many days your clients want but again they do look at how much you charge per day for daycare.

Comments

Daycare is not for 24 hours. It is for no more than about 10 hours, depending on what hours the sitter has designated for morning drop-offs and afternoon/early evening pickups (for example, 7 am through 6 pm).

Hi Karen I wasn't for sure on the hours, was just saying but I do understand you and thx. 😁
