Tax Season Approaching, how much am I expected to truly owe?

Hi!

I know this is a common question but with tax season approaching it is on my mind.

I joined Rover as a sitter back in September 2017. In 2017 I did not make over $600, but I have made over $600 this year, 2018. I wanted to get some information from sitters who have been on here for multiple years as to how the tax season will work. Will I owe a specific percentage of what I have made? Does this vary depending on how you file?

Basically I just want to know the best way to approach it. Little worried I will owe a ton and basically not have even profited from being a sitter...

You have to report your Rover income and business expenses on Schedule C and then your reportables income transfers to your 1040 and you pay tax on that amount, How much you owe depends on your total income. Assume you also work a job and make 20K then your Rover income of 2K is added to it so you pay tax on 22K. Taxes could run 20% of more. I would suggest you consult a tax professional

Can you also include expenses such as treats, toys, extra leashes? What about mileage if you use your car to take dogs to park, or pick up/delivery?

Teresa, you can include those expenses if you choose to itemize your deductions.
