Did you notice that Rover is asking about tipping?

When i went on the site recently, a pop-up appeared and Rover asked me for my opinion about tipping. First they wanted to know what form it should take. I can't remember all of them but in the list were gift cards and at the bottom was money. Then they asked about taking a cut of your tip. There were a range of answers from "yeah, it is okay" to "no, it isn't acceptable."

From my standpoint, Rover already takes enough in fees from our earnings to outright service charges levied on the customer (up to $25 per booking). In other service industries, the owner doesn't take a piece of the gratuity. Why should Rover use this as another way to pad its coffers.

Please make sure you answer this poll and think about all the sitters and walkers who are trying to eke out a living. Remember sitters who board or house sit are making a paltry amount on an hourly basis. Think of them when you answer the poll.

I wasn’t asked! Would have liked to be! Does anyone know about this update? Maybe there should be a tipping button like other service apps!

I saw the pop-up yesterday and responded to it. Sitters tips should NOT be subject to Rover service fees The chatter about this issue in the Facebook Rover Groups has said the same Sitters tips should NOT be subject to Rover service fees*

I saw the pop-up and inadvertently exited or pressed an answer and it hasn't reappeared. I'm sure they count on that. Getting an email with a real survey link would have been preferable. The fact that Rover would even broach the subject of taking a cut of our tips is insulting and absurd.

rover already get alot of money as they charge both the sitter and the owner fees as one of my clients asked why i charge that much and i told them its because rover takes a percentage of when i make and i get the rest.

I think that rover makes enough money as it is, and they need to make it more pet sitter friendly before asking for a tip as i have had to turn away clients as i was already booked for those days and my rating dropped because i couldnt take more clients.

I dont think we should have to dip Rover.com

I do mostly dog boarding and I’ve been tipped once which was so nice but I never expect it. Rover did not take any of it as they shouldn’t. When I used Rover to board my dog with a sitter I tipped her in cash every time upon picking him up. I was always grateful for such a good sitter and I wanted her to know that.

I think tips should only be expected if the dog owner feels that a sitter goes above and beyond what is expected for dog sitting/boarding/walking. Doggy daycare and boarding is expensive enough as it is for dog owners, especially if they use the service fairly often so I don't think tips should necessarily be expected (and this is coming from someone who doesn't even own a dog currently). If a dog owner feels like the sitter provided superb service, then it should be up to them to go out of their way to tip if they so choose.

Well the problem is people do want to tip. Or at least me anyway, 7 out of 10 ask to tip me, and rover doesn’t like that they send me customer support emails every time and each time we get into it simply because they don’t have an option to do it but gets mad when I give them my info
