Owner dropped off a dirty dog. Should I ask owner if I can bathe the dog? How do I phrase it nicely?

The dog and owner are very nice but the dog is not as clean as I would keep my dog. He expects to be on the couch and beds, but I don't feel comfortable with that in his current condition.

I just ask my clients if I can give the doggie a bath to make him feeling good and pretty. Who doesn't want a FREE bath for their dogs? :D

I also send a picture of the dog shampoo that I use, just so the owner can okay it and you never know when a dog has sensitive skin or requires a certain brand of shampoo :)

Can you bathe the dog - yes with the owners' permission! You could notify the client that it's doggie wash day in your home and your pup is getting a bath and you are asking to see if its okay if you bathe doggo? All they can say is no and then you have to accept it, but they may say yes and then you'll have a nicer smelling guest. Best of luck

How about "would you like me to give your dog a bath for you?" This is usually very effective, non-offensive, non-judgmental, just offering to help them out type of a thing- and will get you important information like their dog may be afraid to be bathed to the point that it is a liability, which is why they haven't done it themselves. Or they can only have a special $90 shampoo from the vet and they simply ran out of it (or etc)
