What is an appropriate amount to charge for holidays, specifically Christmas and New Years?

I’m looking for a second opinion when it comes to choosing holiday rates. The current rate I charge is $29 a night and $30 for puppies and holiday rates, which I realize is not a drastic difference at all, but it’s something I’m okay with. When it comes to the holidays though, which I personally find a bit more of a sacrifice when it comes to watching dogs, I wonder if $40 a night sounds unreasonably high. My reviews are beautiful and I know those who care about the quality of care would be willing to pay, but for some reason I have this feeling with everything else people have to pay for over the holidays, going with a pricier sitter over one that’s charging less is something that would make my profile unattractive. Basically, I think I’m just trying to ask if this price sounds absurd for Christmas break specifically and if anyone has boosted their rates up over the winter holidays and what advice you may have to give. Thanks so much

I charge $40 during the year, $45 over the summer, $45 thanksgiving and christmas. This is my job, not a hobby, so I take it seriously.

I don't know why you are so apologetic about charging more during the peak holiday period. Your customers are leaving home and going somewhere. Unless they are driving and staying with friends/relatives, the airlines and hotels are all charging them a higher rate during this period and I don't think those companies feel any guilt about whatever other expenses their customers may have.

This is a business and holiday rates are a valid expense for people who choose to travel during this time of year. Do some checking into what boarding facilities in your area charge during the holidays and other times of the year. Look at how their rates are structured. That will give you a better idea of what people in your area expect or are used to paying.

I think your current rate of $30 on the holiday is low and $40 is reasonable to charge for this time period. I noted your second dog rate does appear high set at $23, many sitters only charge $10 to $15 extra for the second dog. Best of luck

That is a reasonable holiday rate! Mine is $10 higher than normal for overnights and $3 higher for each drop in, plus the normal rate of $5 per extra pet. Honestly you could probably charge more for Christmas and still be booked. I have to decline more bookings than I accept.

I have requests for both Thanksgiving and Christmas break and think that $40 is most definitely fair. It is a sacrifice to have another obligation around this time of year when family time is so critical. Customers want piece of mind that their pets are being well cared for, especially around this time when they want to enjoy the holiday and not worry. A high quality profile will be more attractive to these clients than just a cheap rate, and those are the kind of people you want to sit for anyway.
