BIG request from new owner, not sure to take...?

Hi everyone, this message board is definitely hot with questions! Here's one more. A request for a 10 day housesitting stay with a dog with substantial separation anxiety, three cats, two birds and caring for a bed of flowers. How would I even price it should I consider this? My housesitting rate is $25/day. And I'm not crazy about 1 cat, much less 3, know nothing about birds. So if I decide to refuse this one, what is a tactful way to do that, and is there a way to refer the stay to another sitter, to alleviate them having to search and search? Thanks in advance! SLM

Im not sure how to refer client to other sitters but I say that you should set up a Cat Care Rate (go to your profile, click rates under service and rates, click additional rate under house sitting and cat care rate should be under there). Also let to owner know that they need to have all of their pets (the dogs and cats. I don't see anywhere for the birds to be added) If they don't know how to add cats just send them this link: https://support.rover.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000154646-How-do-I-create-a-cat-profile- (https://support.rover.com/hc/en-us/ar...)

For any other pets that they can't add on Rover or we the sitters can't set a price for, set your own price and let them know. "Just wanted to let you know my rates for birds are $$ per day." You can easily modify the stay and add the total amounts for the pets for the stay. It's important to add the cats and dogs so the can be covered by rover (I'm not sure about adding other pets but maybe you can contact rover so you know what to do the next time)

I think its was a smart move to canceled since you don't know anything about birds. The owner will be able to find another sitter so I wouldn't be worried about it.

If you don't know anything about birds, I wouldn't take it. I know very little about birds, but one thing I know is they can be LOUD....rip your hair out kinda loud. Since this is a housesitting gig (aka if they're super obnoxious, you'd have to deal with it for TEN days), and there are other reasons you don't like this gig (cats, etc), I recommend turning it down. My line would be something like "Since I'm primarily experienced caring for dogs, I don't feel confident I could provide the best care for all your furry and feathered family members. If you have trouble finding another sitter, Rover actually has a matching service where they search for a sitter on your behalf. You can contact them at [Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Visit the Rover Help Center at https://support.rover.com/ to find the phone number, help articles, or chat with the team]. I'm sorry I couldn't help. Please take care!"
