Pet sitting and owner blocked me and won't respond, what should I do?

I'm in a bit of a situation where I'm not sure what steps to take next. I'm watching 2 dogs in my home for a friend of a friend, not through Rover. One of their big dogs got into an altercation with my little dog and hurt her eye. She wasnt able to open it fully for a day but she is fine now. The couple whose dogs I'm watching got new #'s and I've only been communicating with them via Facebook messenger. I messaged the ladies fiance letting him know what happened and told him that I need them to come pick up their dogs because of the dog fight and am worried it will happen again but could be much worse. He read it and never responded. I have been keeping them seperate for a few days and decided to get in touch with the lady. I went to message her and turns out she blocked me. I am now doubting that they will even come pick up their dogs at all. I have no way of contacting them now and am considering taking them to the pound. I just don't know what other option there is. I have had them here for almost a week and have not been paid and am almost out of food for them as well.

What about this friend of yours who put you in touch with these people? Do you know where they live?

Just FYI, if you are going to board pets outside of Rover from complete strangers, I would insist on being paid upfront, just like Rover does. From friends and neighbors, they pay me at the end, but total strangers, you need to be paid upfront.

I normally would but knew these people were in a bind moneywise at the time so was willing to wait and help them out. Won't be doing it again so lesson learned. I let my friend know about it today and she is going to try to contact them but they aren't on the best terms right now so who knows.

Your friend, who put you in touch with these people, isn't on good terms with them? Better and better. The dog owners are not your friends. This is a business. Their financial situation is not your concern.

Your friend must know where they live. Whenever they're back from their trip, bring the dog over. Wait, if necessary, to catch them going in/out. Don't expect payment, especially if they don't care enough about their dog to pick it up. The pound/shelter should be a last resort.

That's a thought. Supposedly the place they are staying doesnt allow pets so they are looking for a place to move which is why I'm watching them in the meantime. Now that I have been blocked due to saying my dog was hurt due to theirs I don't know what their intentions are at this point.

You go to wherever they're living, knock on the door, and hand them the dogs. Not your concern if the boyfriend's place doesn't allow dogs. Let them figure it out.

How long was the agreed upon stay supposed to last? You say you have been watching them for almost a week but you don't say when the pickup was supposed to be scheduled for? Also since the food is running low it is hard to tell if that is because they overextended their stay or just under packed?

Before going to pound I would wait at least a day or 2 past the date of pickup with no communication. If they are away they may just be unable to communicate (just giving them benefit of the doubt) if not maybe you can reach out to alternative solutions like a foster home type situation I would have to have the dogs go to the pound.

They are in a situation where they are not out of town. The lady goes from guy to guy and is currently living with a boyfriend in a place that doesn't allow dogs. They are supposed to be finding a place to move to so I agreed to watch them for 1 to 2 weeks.

They didnt send much food for 2 large dogs but told me to let me know whenever I was running low and that they would bring me more anytime. Now all communication has been cut off since I have been blocked. This is just the strangest situation I've ever run into.

Yes this is really strange sorry that they have blocked off communication. If it is safe to keep the dogs separated I would at least give it another day or two and meanwhile see if you can communicate by finding out where they live and looking for them there.

Sorry to hear of your issues but since you booked this outside of Rover you have little recourse but to tough it out and hope they come for the dog and actually pay you. Best of luck

Basically if they dont come for the dog what can I do?

Every state or county has a policy on abandoned animals. In my county, if you take a dog to the shelter they will be scanned for a microchip and placed on a hold for two weeks while the shelter attempts to contact the owner. Check with your local animal control office!
