Meet and greet through Skype?

I'm new to Rover (but not new to pet sitting). I am excited that I may potentially have my first Rover booking. But the situation isn't typical and I could use some opinions from the community.

The dog owner is moving to my city from across the country. Here's where it gets weird. The dog is arriving here (in my city) before the owner does. The owner has some business to wrap up before she travels here and I would be watching the dog in its new home in the meantime.

So it will basically be impossible for me to have a traditional meet-and-greet. I was thinking of trying to arrange it through Skype. That way we can kinda meet face-to-face, although remotely. Has anyone ever tried anything like that? Or does this just sound like some weird scam that I should steer clear of?

I love the idea of a client who travels frequently. That means more pet sitting opportunities for me! But I want to be safe too and I don't want to violate any of Rover's policies. I'm anxious to hear your thoughts.

Sounds like the typical scam scenario. Also, has the customer asked for any of your personal information? Find out from Rover if this is a real customer before proceeding.

The prospective client hasn't asked for any personal information and all contact has been directly through Rover. How can I verify with Rover that this is a real customer?

Actually, I see now that her account has been flagged by Rover for suspicious activity. Thanks for your good advice friends! I'm happy to have a community looking out for me!

You can always call Rover Customer Support to ask.

It it sounds like a scam, it is a scam. Glad to see someone else reported them and got them flagged.

I think a Skype M&G would be better than not having one at all so go for it. My only concern is what service are you offering as you don't have boarding as an option and mention you cannot have pets in your home? If you are house sitting how will you gain access to the home and you will be caring for a dog in a brand new location plus you are a stranger. Too many red-flags for me, but best of luck

I actually offered a Skype call as a sitter to an owner/potential client once, because they contacted me while I was traveling around the Christmas holiday wanting to do a meet and greet in anticipation of a potential "test run" in March (this was December) in anticipation of potential longer gig over the summer (I guess they were planners). I offered to have our initial conversation over Skype rather than waiting until January, and we were working on scheduling it when they started ghosting (I assume they found someone else they felt more strongly about).
