What should I do if my client does not pay me and insist on direct pay?

Hello,

So one of my client just dropped off his dog Coco with me last night around 6PM. And as he was rushing off to leave he said that if it is okay for him to pay me directly instead of Rover as he is aware there may be fees that could be reduced. I said that it isn't okay because it wouldn't be safer for both of us. But he asked if he could still give me the cash and I pay Rover the fees. And I simply told him it wouldn't work that way. And he said that it is his first time using Rover so he doesn't have his credit card information on his account. I was nice and polite and gave him the Rover Customer service phone number and told him that they would be happy to assist him. Did I do a good job? He hasn't responded via text after I sent the phone number. Do you think there is a possibility that he may just run off with his dog back on Friday and not pay me? Or do you think he will just give me cash and be like okay bye! Thanks. :( I'm worried now.

I know I was supposed to have them confirm and everything first. But they didn't. It was literally him last minute asking me if I was available to take care of his dog and he just dropped it off. We didn't even get a chance to do a proper meet and greet because he was in a rush to leave and the dog slipped out of my apartment door and ran off. Thankfully he caught her and brought her back inside.

Any advice given would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have seen this happen in our city to ladies trying to dog sit on the side and go thru FB or craigslist. In their cases, the owner ended up not coming back for their pets. Be rigid in your rules before allowing them to drop off. It seems they should atleast have to pay a deposit before drop off.

Oh that is very horrible. I am sorry for the people who encountered this issue. Thank you for your advice!

Hello, what is the customer service #, i cant find it anywhere online?

Cardinal rule of Rover is to never accept cash payment from a client. And never accept a dog before the booking is confirmed by the owner. Best of luck

Even last minute bookings take 10 seconds to confirm. If a person doesn't want to confirm the booking, then that already shows that there is something not right. You should be careful. A person doesn't confirm, and you give him your address and you and him basically go around Rover and do a direct deal. Now you are not covered by Rover insurance and help line, but you also are doing a direct deal with a person who is slick and didn't confirm.... Now Rover may even suspend you and the man may not pay you. This is not how you are supposed to run a good business. I am not trying to be critical, but this is not a good situation for you. Good luck.

Thank you for your advice. Fortunately everything worked out and he did confirm the booking and everything! And he ended up coming back as a repeat client again and I made sure he did confirm booking second time as well. And his dog absolutely is attached to me. Happy ending!
