The number of drop ins/check ins for housesitting?

I have been struggling to understand what the"housesitting" means in terms of number of check ins during the booked nights. I noticed that some sitters do 2 drop ins (for example, morning and evening) and overnight stay as a housesitting service per night. Some say that housesitting means being with pets 24/7; and some say it's the same as the owner normally does (for example, 4 drop ins during the day). I also would like to point out that I disagree comparing housesitting to babysitting as the babysitters are getting paid by the hour. I'm just not sure if the right thing to do is to charge a pet owner additional drop ins with the housesitting nightly rate if he requires 4 drop ins during the day. And what if the owner books housesitting and doesn't want me to stay overnight, but just drop in 4 times per day? Would I charge the night housesitting rate plus 2 additional drop ins or would I just ask him to book 4 drop ins per day? I wish Rover was more specific and identified services like: Overnight stay with morning and evening care, Full 24/7 hours stay with unlimited amount of care. This way the sitters can have two separate rates. It's VERY different staying with the dog 24 hours for several days versus staying overnight with just several drop ins. Don't you agree? I just want to make sure that my customers are happy and I don't overcharge, but also don't sell myself and my time short.

Thank you!

Seeing you are new I recommend you take time to read the articles in the help section found at the top right of this page. Also, we are independent contractors and structure our services around the guidelines that Rover suggests.

Since you mentioned house sitting, all care provided is for a 24 hour period, but most sitters don't stay at the client's home for 24 hours, many of us leave for the day and possibly stop in for a mid-day walk. Your house sitting rate is $30, 3 drops ins per day would be $60.

Best of luck
