Getting started in a busy city (how is my profile)?

Hello,

I've just started on Rover in a city, and haven't received any clients yet. I'm wondering what I am doing wrong, and also how my profile stacks up?

Also, I took Rover 101 a few days ago and the badge hasn't shown up yet.

Any advice on how you came before dog walkers with repeat clients would be great :)

If you are certain you passed the Rover 101 you should contact Rover support as the badge usually shows up right away @ [Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Visit the Rover Help Center at https://support.rover.com/ to find the phone number, help articles, or chat with the team] For many sitters it can take a considerable amount of time to acquire that first client, usually after you do a few more usually follow. In my case, it was 3 months before my first client booking and then it took off.

I see you are only offering walks and drop-ins, those are the least popular services on the platform. Walking caters more to densely populated area's where clients have long commutes and long work days, not sure if Providence falls into that category. You have set your service area very large and this may be hurting you in search results, you may want to cut it back a few miles. You may want to consider making tear-off flyers and post them on neighborhood bulletin board; libraries, Dunkin Donuts, and some pet stores. All look to join local Facebook groups that will allow yu to post your business services. Best of luck to you

I agree with Walt's advice to post local adds. I also got a few business cards and hand them out to folks I meet in the neighborhood.

It is also my experience that it takes some time to get a good client base. I joined over 6 years ago, and I think I maybe had one visit in my first year (granted Rover wasn't as big of a "thing" back then).

Also, as a heads up your pricing seems super low to me. Remember that Rover takes a percentage (I think 20%?), and if you make more than $600, this is considered taxable income and you will have to declare it. Rover doesn't withhold for you, so you need to set aside about 30% of all your earnings to pay quarterly. So for a 30 minute drop in (plus commute time to the client's house), you are essentially making $5/hour.

Hi! I just took the Rover 101 quiz also, and a message there indicates it can take a few days for your Rover 101 badge to be posted. Perhaps wait another 1-2 days before contacting the Rover folks about that. Good luck to you and all the newbies.
