Extra charge for vet trips?

Hi,

my regular client is going to be boarding with me for 3 weeks. Her owner just informed me that she is getting weekly shots for her bad arthritis and has gently asked me if I could take her to the vet weekly while she's boarding with me. I should charge something for this, right? Enough to cover for gas? Thanks

I have this current situation with a dog that seems to have some sort of urinary issue....she is peeing in the house and has never done that. She does have some separation anxiety but seems to be doing very good with that. I am taking the dog to the vet for the customer tomorrow....it is close, but will certainly take at least an hour out of my day and include an additional trip to the house. What do you think is a good charge for this if you were going to charge? This is my first time with this customer. She seems very appreciative and has offered to pay, I just don't know how much. Ideas?

Penny, you might get more responses if you started your own question here, instead of using the response space, especially because your situation is different, a drop-in vs boarding. Just charge what you think an hour of your time is worth to you.

It's really your decision. Yes, you can enter a cost adjustment or add the pick up/drop off transportation service. However, since this is a regular client and it is a long boarding stay will be improved by her continuing weekly injections, you may choose to waive that charge and let her know that in appreciation of her & her dog, you're not charging for it.

It is totally your call.

If it was a little bit of a drive I would casually reference to the owner the location of the vet hospital. (example: "If I remember correctly, Fido goes to the animal hospital all the way down on the other side of..." (fill in the bank). Or you can respond back with, "sure its a little bit a drive but I am sure I can work my schedule around it." Hopefully, the client will offer to throw something in for gas.

For my regular clients, I personally am okay with being flexible and not charging the client to take their pet to the vet or to a grooming appointment, to pick up thier dog food from the pet store, ect. But only when I feel that the clients are appreciative of me doing it. (I find that they do normally leave a tip to compensate me for my time, which works for me).

Now if I felt the client was not appreciative than the next time that they asked me to do something extra, I would say "sure, let me go ahead and fix our transaction so we can add that in as a cost adjustment down at the bottom."

Good Luck!
