Dogs only let out of crate to potty once a day?

I got a booking to do two drop-ins for two dogs. One at 6 pm on Friday and one at 6 PM Saturday. In the care instructions it says to let the dogs out of their crates for a 30-minute potty/food break outside and then they should be returned to the crate. So unless the owners are coming back sometime during the day on Saturday the dogs will be in the crate a full 24 hrs. before they are let outside again.

I'm assuming the owners are out of town, but I dont know. I'm not trying to accuse them of anything, the dogs seem well cared for otherwise. Just seems like a long time to be crated.

Have you had situations like this and how do you deal with them?

I had a similar experience with a repeat client who I had previously met with dogs. However, one difference is I asked for clarification before booking. In that household, there were other people coming & going that could let the dogs out to relieve themselves every few hours- just not at the times service was requested. So, you might just ask if anyone else is helping provide care and if they have any additional requests.

At this point,YES, you really should complete the booking. The dogs and their humans are counting on you and you made a commitment to them and Rover.

I should have asked for clarification and am kicking myself for not doing that. Of course I am going to do the two drop ins they requested at this point. I have now asked them if there is anyone else checking on them during the day, and if not, asked if I could do additional drop ins.

Thanks for the response.

Complete care of the dogs should have been discussed at the meet and greet and agreed upon. Letting them out only once in 24 hours is unacceptable as they should be let out at least 3 or more times in that period. If I were you I would call the client and clarify what care is being provided and by whom. If this was my client I wouldn't have accepted the booking unless I drop in at least 3 times; and you shouldn't have either.

Thanks for the advice, Walt. You're right, I shouldn't have accepted it. I've reached out to the owners to discuss their care for the day and offered to let the dogs out an additional time(s) .
