What rates would you charge for a household with 2 dogs and 3 cats?

Hey, everyone.

This question is about one potential client in particular. In a household with two large, highly energetic dogs that need to be taken to the apartment complex dog park daily, and three cats (one adult and two kittens), what's a reasonable housesitting rate? I don't typically charge additionally for cats if I'm already there to housesit for the dogs - does anybody else do it differently? The stay would be 3 weeks long, not during a holiday.

Thanks in advance. :)

It really depends on your area, but I would set up a cat fee for what you feel is fair if you had to do litter boxes and all of the cat duties. I almost always waive this fee, but it provides a good talking point and a positive surprise when we talk. In your case for three critters... I think 3 cats equals 1 dog as far as effort is concerned and would charge your additional dog fee for them. Either way, get something in the Rover system.

I looked at your profile to see your rates before answering, I would say $35 a night and the cats are free, no additional discounts even for 3 weeks.

Staying with 5 pets in their apartment, probably means you will have to walk the dogs at least 3 times a day plus a dog park every single day. Cleaning the cat litter boxes daily.
That's a lot of work, you will basically live there. I think $50 a night is very fair.

With your additional dog fee for house sitting, I would think $45/night is fair, or you could bump it up another $5-10 for the cats. You can explain that the first cat is free, but since they have 3 you will charge a nominal fee to cover them.

I'd also suggest you check the rates of other comparable sitters in your area. You shouldn't sell yourself short, as I'm sure 2 high energy dogs and 3 cats (2 of which are kittens!) will be a lot to handle. Also take into account how long the animals can be left alone - will you be able to take other walks or drop-ins, or work at another job during the time?

As long as you have reasons to support your rate, I think you'll be fine!

When there are both dogs and cats in the house, I charge $5 for cat care. I've only had clients with one cat but if there were more than 3 I would charge another $5.
