When I can't take a job, should I first meet the other sitters I'd like to recommend?

When I cannot accept a booking request, I'd like to help pet owners by recommending specific Rover Sitters. But do I need to have met the other sitter (at least through a text)?

One thing I did early on is to build a network of local Rover sitters so we can help each other when needed. Everyone needs time off or gets sick or don't offer all the services but the network does. All my backups have met my clients and I have met theres, so if something comes up with short notice everyone is good to go.

That sounds like a great system because fatigue can be a factor in not being available. Thank you!

I would, especially because you are putting your name behind your recommendation. I would want to know that the other sitter runs her boarding services the same as I do. (You will be surprised how different one sitter could be vs a different sitter.) Keep in mind that the client you are referring out will more than likely not ever come back to you. Which is a good thing, for the simple fat that the client had a good experience with a sitter you recommended. The bad part is she is now happy with the other sitter and will probable continue using them, and you lost out of a good client, f you know someone (a close friend or relative ) that would be interested in doing dog sitting for your over flow clients might be a better idea. I would than make it a point to stop in when that client is boarding with them and taking a picture with their pet. This just strengthens the bond that you had formed with the client during the meet and greet which in turn the client is more likely to come back to you. Best of Luck.

Excellent advice, thank you! I had not fully considered how my recommendation would reflect back on me. I'll make it a point to meet the sitters I might need to recommend.

I forgot- i will tell clients if they need help finding another sitter, to let me know & I would be happy to get them in contact w/Rover Support. RS definitely will be able to help find a sitter for (dog). I will text Rovers #. It takes the pressure off me of feeling bad and/or find another sitter.
