How to best educate my client, on how to take care of their dog?

I ran into a client who have little to no knowledge on how to take care of their dog. When I got the dog, the nails were twice as long as they should be. One of his paws were infected, and hes got crust all over his eyes, and I mean ALL OVER, like a circle. I tried to clean as much as I could, however, this does not seem like something that do regularly. This dog also has 0 training, jumps on everyone, doesn't know any commands, pulls the leash like crazy. This dogs here for 10 days, so I did everything I could to train, at least he knows sit now. But training and cleaning are life long commitment, which I am sure this dog is not getting (enough of).

How do you think is the best approach I can to help them out? When they come pick up the dog, what/how should I tell them? Any suggestion? I don't want to say nothing, but I also don't want to upset them to the point they give me a bad review, you know.

Thanks

Do you ask to see the vaccination records at the meet & greet? As you described, is that what the dog looked like at the meet & greet? Be careful about "educating" owners. Do research the causes of crust around the eyes so you are very knowledgeable and would sound professional. Politely but professionally let the owner know there are several causes which could be a serious health issue and suggest they talk to their vet. Also, do the same about long toe nails and any other issues of your concern. But, don't overwhelm the owner. Just pick one or 2 issues.

Thanks. I ended up putting my "recommendations" on a sheet of paper and hand it to them when they came to pick up the dog, i also demonstrated some of the tasks while they were here.

I am hoping that helped.
