Is there insurance if your belonging is damaged at a client's house?

During one of my overnight stays at my client's house, their dog destroyed something of mine that is rather expensive to replace. However, they are repeat customers and probably life-long customers at that. I didn't want to tell them because I didn't want them to blame me/accuse me/pay out of pocket. My dad was rather upset that I didn't say anything because of the cost of the item. He said I should tell them because their homeowner's insurance would probably cover it. But again, if their insurance didn't cover it and/or they didn't want to file a claim, I didn't want them to pay out of pocket and possibly decide to find another sitter. Suggestions? Has anyone ever dealt with this? The item wasn't exactly in a spot that I thought the dog could get at but then again, the next day he got into the deep sunken sink and pulled out a heavy, ceramic dish and threw it on the floor! Needless to say, I've learned that this particular dog can get to anything, anywhere!!

Rover insurance does not cover the sitter's property, sorry https://support.rover.com/hc/en-us/ar...

Your possessions are not covered by Rover's insurance. You could mention it to the client and see what kind of reaction they have, but I wouldn't expect them to pay out of pocket for it. If they offered, that's another story. Suggesting use of their home owners insurance isn't your place. FYI, filing claims causes premiums to increase and policies have deductibles starting at $500 but likely much more.

What this experience should have taught you is not to bring anything valuable to jobs and, if you must, then be sure it is adequately secured at all times.

Definitely did! Sad thing is, that it was something that I needed to bring with me. I just need to hide it next time or keep it in my car when not in use.
