Which insurance companies provide homeowners insurance with home based dog care business?

Hello Fellow Rover Sitters,

I am a sitter and I live in Ohio. I am trying to find the answer to my questions and I am having difficulty so I thought fellow sitters might be able to help me.

I am looking for 2 lists:

  1. of insurance companies that offer personal homeowner insurance policies that WILL COVER my home despite having a dog care home based business
  2. of insurance companies that offer personal homeowner insurance policies that WON'T cover my home with a dog care home based business

I would appreciate any assistance with these lists or a resource that I use to help me compile these lists.

Thank you,

Leslie

Most homeowners policies will not cover your home if you operate a home-based dog care business in your home. And many will cancel your policy if they find out you are doing this. The whole insurance issue is a sticky wicket as you need your home covered and the insurance companies won't cover you. Most sitters I know just fly under the radar. If your home is damaged by a clients dog you just have to suck it up and absorb the costs. No one ever said being a sitter is easy!

I just signed up for this insurance and was pleasantly surprised how reasonable it was. I'm also curious if anyone else has worked with insurer before. https://www.petcareins.com/pet-sitter-insurance (https://www.petcareins.com/pet-sitter...)

That insurance will not cover your home and even if I have that insurance, my homeowners co said they would not insure my home if I ran a boarding business from the house.

Right, I was not looking to replace my homeowners insurance , but wanted additional coverage for the business--I have existing clients who didn't come through Rover. I'm flying under the radar on my homeowners insurance.
