Many in the independent pet care profession look down on Rover sitters, calling us unprofessional and even worse, some of it warranted, some of it is not. I am in several FB groups and see the bashing all the time, many of it comes from frustrated independents who continue to lose business to Rover, a lot of it is because most Rover sitters charge way below them. I blame low prices on Rover because they advise new sitters to set low prices and even recommend low prices to them. I bit in originally but raised my prices to be in line with local independents.

To answer your question, is there value in joining professional organizations? I would say yes if they offer education to their members and a listing on the website. Rover's education, specifically for new sitters, well it just sucks and for experienced sitters it's non-exstent. Never forget that Rover is a technology company and not a pet care company.
