How do you determine whether a sitting job is legitimate?

Hi there,

I am new to Rover and just booked my first sitter job. The client gave me a call this evening to discuss her dog and at first it seemed fine but after reflecting on the conversation, I am slightly concerned. She is currently in NY and I am in RI. She said that she was in the process of moving to RI and when she arrived her new landlord said that she could not move into her new apartment so she found a sitter on Rover for her dog and returned back to NY. She also told me that she paid the current sitter and her previous sitter in cash because her card was not working on the website and she called her bank to fix it and the bank said if she uses her card on Rover her account would be frozen, which I found to be strange. Also given the fact that she has had two Rover sitters already I found that it is strange that she has only been a Rover member for 6 days. Finally, her current sitter is in Providence, her new apartment is 30 minutes north of Providence and I am 45 minutes south. I find this strange that she contact me given the proximity and that there seems to be many sitters available for the dates she requested who are geographically closer. Does this sound fishy or am I just being overly suspicious?

Two other weird things: 1) she told me that she is moving to RI to work at Memorial Hospital, which is closing down. 2) She has not yet moved to RI but she is has an RI area code.

This sounds like a scam to me. I would contact Rover support and have them look at the clients account [Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Visit the Rover Help Center at https://support.rover.com/ to find the phone number, help articles, or chat with the team]
