How do I bring up bad behavior?

Just had my first boarding and the dog used they bathroom in the house and overall was behavior I didn't know how to bring up to the owner I didn't want her to feel as if I had done something wrong or if I was just attacking her dog. So how do i bring it up next time if it happens again.

Yes, it can be challenging. When the owner returns for pick up, tell the owner what went well, what you did together, and good or cute things. Then let the owner know what difficulties the dog had adapting. You can even state that you realize the dog's accidents may be due to nerves of being in an unfamiliar place with new people. If the dog had aggressive or destructive tendencies, it's important for the owner to know also- they may choose to have a Trainer work on those issues.

Based on your assessment, you may wrap up the conversation by suggesting the dog would be happier staying at home with a sitter who cares for him/her there (with drop in visits, walks, or house sitting) or by referring her back to Rover customer support (for future stays, Rover support will gladly help match you & your dog to a sitter who is a better fit).

Agree with Deb. I've found that saying something along the lines of "We had a couple of potty mishaps, but I think he/she was just nervous about being in a new place" diffuses the notion that I'm just complaining about their dog.

Some good advice already mentioned.

My only concern is too always make sure you don't underplay the situation. Just be clear and direct with the owner about what happened. Be prepared to steer the conversation. If the owner is put-off or argumentative, just thank them and refer them to Rover Support as needed. If they are understandable and seem to care, work with them to figure it out and maybe you increase your price a bit until normal behavior is displayed. Be consistent with your feedback to the owner and if it isn't working for you, you can always withdraw courteously.

If this was the first time you were boarding or house sitting the dog, some dogs have a bit of anxiety in a new home or with a new person. You may have missed the dog's cue he/she had to go out. I take lots of pictures and send them with an update to the owner(s). If there is an issue I mention it at that time. Accidents happen, even with my repeats. I don't tell the owner(s), I clean it up. My drapes are machine washable. If you are boarding you may want to use a belly band/diaper. Make sure to take the dog out more frequently and last thing at night before you go to bed. Be observant and watch for the cues such as dog goes to the door and looks back. Each dog may have their own cue. You can let the owner know of the accident and ask what cues to watch for.
