What do you charge for multiple dogs in the same family for walking?

I've been asked to walk two dogs living at the same household. Do you charge your one dog rate or charge your rate per dog, or provide a discount on the 2nd dog? Is there a way to set that up on Rover? If you wanted to charge less for the second dog? If you are driving to the location that is roughly 15 minutes away-when or can you charge a travel fee?

Thank you

Hi, there!

For drop-ins and walks, it is assumed that your travel is included in your fee. You should only set your travel radius to distances you feel are worth your time for the rate you've set. You are, of course, welcome to charge a travel fee, but most sitters don't and it might prevent building a client base if you're starting out.

Different sitters have different approaches to the 'additional dog discount'. Some charger per dog, per visit at full price. Others offer a discounted price for the second dog. Others still will offer the additional dogs in the same house for free. It's up to you what to offer. No matter which way you've decided to go for your own business, you'll want to make sure all dogs are listed on the booking (and thus covered by insurance).

I personally only charge $5 extra for each additional dog, as long as the care all takes place in the same 30 min appointment. If each dog needs to be walked separately for 30 mins each, then I would charge full price for each dog.

It all depends on the sitter. But you can change the radius on your profile to the maximum distance you want to travel for different services. & you can go to your profile rates and go to additional services and change your price for additional dogs, puppy rate, baths, cat care, etc. You can also charge a pickup and drop off fee for daycare and boarding clients. I did get a request for someone who needed a replacement sitter to board their dog asap but it was outside my radius (30 min drive) and i just informed them them of that and told them I would happily take the dog but I would have to charge them a higher fee to cover gas and time.

I personally charge $15 for a drop in visit for the first dog and then $8 for the second dog. If they have smaller dogs I will only charge $5 for each additional dog. My rate is pretty average for my area but some sitters do offer $5 for the second dog regardless of size. It is all about your preference. Some sitters in my area charge the same amount for a drop in visit as they do for daycare.

To answer your initial question, I only upcharge for the 3rd dog, 2nd one walked with my base rate. And if you are looking for more drop ins and walks you need to increase your coverage area as it is set very small

You can also go into a private mode and search other sitters that offer the same services you do to check their rates for multiple pets from the same household. It can vary greatly from location (State/City), from Canada, U.S. East to West Coasts. Also, it can vary due to income levels and if you live near or on a military base.
